Energy Saving Mode with Keep my console (games & apps) up to date

Hi Everyone,

yesterday i traded-in my old xbox one fat for an xbox one s.

After intial startup and some games i noticed that, when turning off the console being in
Energy Saving Mode, the fan didn't stop running instantly after the logo button stopped blinking; it stopped completely only after 1-2 minutes.

This never happened with my old box.

So, searching a bit, i noticed this settings section named "Updates" with two check options "Keep my console up to date" and "Keep my games & apps up to date": the former seemed relative to make the console update when turning-off the console, the latter
relative to automatically updating games in background when console is active.

Unchecking both of them caused the fan's turn-off behavior to be restored to the old box's one (instant stop when console shuts down as expected)

My question is:

weren't these "auto-update" features available only when using Instant-On mode? Are they now working even with Energy Saving mode?

If yes, the fan stop delay was caused by some updates check before turning off completely the console?





Does Energy saving + Keep my console up to date try to update the system at every shut down and only after that the console completely turns off?

Updating mid competitive match

It isn't if you have your console in Instant on mode or have the "keep my console up to date" box ticked if you use energy saving mode.

Never been kicked out of a game for an update since the xbox one released.

You can do either in your settings on your console.

 

Update later option!

You can now use the "keep my console up to date" feature via network settings which downloads any console updates when your console is off even in energy saving mode.

Not sure whether that's a Insider thing or everyone has that now.

 

That feature has been there for a few months now.

In instant on it will download any console,game or app updates while the console is off.

In energy saving mode,if you have the 2 boxes ticked it will download console updates while the console is off & download any other updates in the background when you turn your console on.

When you turn your console off it uploads saves etc. with the cloud & checks for updates which is why the fan runs for a couple of minutes after you've turned the console off & is perfectly normal.
