Enable multiplayer mode for minecraft on child microsoft account using chromebook

My child plays minecraft using a chromebook. I am trying to enable the multiplayer setting on my child's minecraft account, so he can see & accept a friend's friend request. However, I am in a catch-22. In minecraft, the message reads:

"You cannot add friends because of how your Microsoft account is set up. Please ensure your online safety settings allow adding friends. See instructions for changing these settings at aka.ms/MCMultiplayerHelp"

The URL is completely useless as it ONLY addresses xbox. All instructions I can find online start with "adding a device" but it appears impossible to add a chromebook as a device to a Microsoft Account because the Microsoft Family Safety App is not available on the chromebook. It seems as though surely there must be a way to revise settings for a child microsoft account at the global level, but I can't figure it out. Any advice appreciated.

    :)

Enable multiplayer mode for minecraft on child microsoft account using chromebook

    Hello R_161_389,

Let me help you with your concern today. Please note that this is a public forum, I will be responding to you in short period of time and I apologize for a delay in response. As I am merely a user trying to provide insight and information that may be helpful.

The article provided on the URL you are being directed to is not just for Xbox, it is for all Microsoft accounts. Minecraft uses Microsoft accounts so you will have to follow the provided steps in there for managing multiplayer settings for your child.

    1. Login your parent account in here https://account.xbox.com/Settings?rtc=1&act... and select your child's account among the family members at the top.

    2. Go to Xbox and Windows Online Safety tab.

    3. Select Allow for "You can join multiplayer games" and "You can add friends and follow others"

    4. Go to Privacy tab.

    5. Select Allow for "Others can send you friend requests"

Please refer on the image attached below, in there you can see where exactly the settings for multiplayer and adding friends are. You will both have to set them to "Allow" and select submit.

I hope this helps. I will be awaiting your response.

    Regards,

    Belle

    Minecraft for Chromebooks--Multiplayer. Needed. Now.

There are guides now for installing Minecraft on modern Chromebooks using Linux that don't require developer mode. Here is one that I used: https://beebom.com/how-install-play-minecraft-chromebook/.
Sadly, the account/friends list is tied to a Microsoft account and I can't figure out how to log in using it.

Why won't Microsoft Families allow my kid to play multiplayer?

Hello Thunder C, my name is Vanessa, and I would be happy to help.

Why is Microsoft Families not allowing my child to play in multiplayer mode?

I am very sorry for the problems you are having with Microsoft Families. I understand that it can be frustrating when something does not work as it should.

There are several reasons why Microsoft Families might be preventing your child from playing in multiplayer mode. One possibility is that the age restrictions are not set up correctly. Make sure that the age restrictions for multiplayer mode are set to "Allow". You can also try increasing the maximum allowed age for multiplayer mode.

Another possibility is that your child does not have a Microsoft account. If so, you will need to create an account for them and add them to your Microsoft family.

Finally, it is also possible that there is a problem with the Minecraft software. Try reinstalling the game to see if that resolves the problem.

Here are some specific steps you can follow to try to troubleshoot the problem:

Check age restrictions. Open the Xbox Family app and go to "Settings". Then, select "Content restrictions" and make sure that the age restrictions for multiplayer mode are set to "Allow". You can also try increasing the maximum allowed age for multiplayer mode.
Check if your child has a Microsoft account. If they do not have an account, you will need to create one for them. To do this, go to the Microsoft accounts website and click "Create account".
Reinstall Minecraft. To do this, open the Microsoft Store app and search for Minecraft. Then, click "Install".

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to help.

    Best regards,
    Vanessa.

Enable Multiplayer Minecraft for Child Account

    Hello ClaytonHealy,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

For this concern, it is best to check the game support guidelines on how to manage a child account. Please check this step below and see if you have already tried this:

    FAMILY GROUP MULTIPLAYER FEATURES

If a member of your family group wants to play multiplayer features in Minecraft, such as Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Realms, an organizer can adjust these settings by using the Xbox Family Settings app.

    1. Sign in to the app with an organizer’s Microsoft account, and then do one of the following to get to Settings:
      • Select the tile for the member’s account that you want to manage, and then select the Settings icon in the top-right corner of the Family screen.
      • Select the Settings icon at the bottom of the Family screen, and then select the tile for the member’s account that you want to manage.
    2. Select Manage Minecraft under Content restrictions.
    3. If Minecraft is rated above a member’s age limit, enable Allow gameplay under Enable Minecraft to grant the member an exception to play it.
      • Enable Multiplayer to let a member play Minecraft with others online, even if their account settings block them from multiplayer features.
You can revoke this access at any time by repeating these steps. For more info about configuring settings for members of your Xbox family group, see: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/family-online-safety/family-settings-app/manage-child-content-in-the-Xbox-Family-Setting-app

Note: You can find additional parental settings at https://account.xbox.com/settings.

The Xbox Family Settings app is an easy way for adults to manage their children’s gaming activities on Xbox consoles and PC. You can modify your family group settings and access additional parental controls for your children from the app. See Xbox Family Settings App for more information.
