Email/Alais on Xbox

Once the email alias on the account is changed, it will not delete or terminate the old one. It will just simply be removed as the email associated on the Microsoft account.

• If you remove an alias that's an email address from a Microsoft domain (like @hotmail.com, @live.com, @outlook.com, or @msn.com), the email is permanently deleted from our systems and can no longer be used to send or receive emails, nor can it be transferred to a different account. Microsoft also doesn't recycle email addresses, which means the alias can't be reclaimed later.
  

The email used when creating the account will always be the associated email unless the email were to be completely deleted. Since you do not wish to delete your mother's email, there is nothing that you can do unless one of you wishes to start over with brand new accounts.

If your mom's email is not a microsoft email domain if you switch the alais it will only change the email on the msa and the original email will still be active through gmail,yahoo,etc. If the email is a hotmail,live,msn,or outlook then I recommend hopping
on a Xbox 360 and doing a msa swap.
