Elite series 2 controller L3 hardware issue

So I just picked up the elite series 2 controller and was excited to use it. Jumped on the new MW2 and I've realised when I try to sprint in diagonal directions (2 and 10'o'clock on left thumbstick) the stick doesn't click. Also if you click the stick down and rotate it in circles you can feel it catching/grinding.

Is this a common issue with everyone? And if so is there anything to do to fix it? I've seen some people say theirs breaks in after a while and doesn't do it anymore. What I don't want to do is send it off to get repaired under warranty and have it come back with the same/new issues because that seems like a common theme on other threads.

If there's nothing that can be done then its getting sent back - how can a £150 "premium" controller have so many issues and how did they not catch this when designing it?

But the best advice I can give you would be to actually send the console to microsoft's analysis/repair center. For them to analyze and if this error is confirmed, it is already repaired or replaced.

Has Microsoft resolved the production issues with the Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 with a hardware refresh?

There is no know hardware revision released to the Elite Series 2 controller from Microsoft at this time which related to resolving the hardware issues. Happy to be proved wrong.
