    DVD Drive Issue


    I have an Xbox 360 and the DVD drive is not reading any games. I have tried different games and I get the same result. I open the tray and put the game in the it says "reading" but doesn't load the game and no title appears. Yes, I have cleaned the dvds.

    I am guessing the drive is bad. I will have to open up the xbox and look at the drive.

    Can I use any DVD drive in the Xbox?

    d3v1ld0g, I removed the HDD (left it off for the time being) and it made no difference - same issue w/MW3 (unreadable disk) and an intermittent freeze on NFS. Mw3 actually started last night after some tinkering with the DVD drive, but the DVD drive makes
    unique noises (on this game only) and ultimately feezes. I really think the DVD drive has issues. Will I have the "banned console" issue if I replace the DVD drive? If I solder the old controller board to the new DVD drive will that solve the issue?

    E66: DVD Drive Error - Dvd drive pairing failure: DVD model, or version does not match that of the version expected by the dashboard. OR the firmware version on the drive is older then the firmware version expected by the dashboard. Make sure the DVD drive
    is of the same version originally included with the console and that it is using either the original firmware included with the console or newer. if drive can eject, read, and write under windows but errors on console, replacing original firmware should fix
    issue.

    XB1 doesn't recognise 360 discs...

    See if the drive will play a DVD movie since Xbox 360 games are stored on DVD, if not I would suspect a drive issue rather than an issue with Backwards Compatibility.

    As StuartATrueRed said though, make sure the disc is BC first.

    Sounds like a hardware issue with the disc drive. Since Xbox 360 games are on DVD does a regular movie DVD work on your console? If not I would suspect fault with the laser on the disc drive.
