duplicate xbox profiles

I have duplicate xbox profiles on the same microsoft account. How do I delete the one profile that shouldn't be there without sacrificing the original profile or the entire microsoft account?

steeledwand, congrats. You made me facepalm myself through a wall. There was a typo in one profile's email address, missing one letter, and now that I know that both of them function.

When trying to login to the original, I accidentally created a new profile under the same microsoft account. They are both signed in on my console but I don't dare sign out of the original(with all my subscriptions and game progress) because the only one
that responds to the sign in process is the duplicate. I did it about a year ago on a friends console, and now I'm limited to just my console.

Go to settings, account, remove accounts and delete both your account and the duplicate

You can not have 2 Xbox profiles under the same email address.

There has to be something different about the email addresses.

If you can sign into both of them and this is on an Xbox One you can go into settings and under the account tab go to sign in security and passkey that screen will tell you what the email address is for the account that is currently signed in.
