I can't remember if payment was made through Microsoft or a third party, but it was essentially a way to get a 360 on a payment plan if you signed a 2 year contract. However, a bunch of people who bought it and decided to no longer make payments would just try to re-sell them instead of cancelling their contract. It left a bunch of people with essentially brocked consoles because only the contract owner could resolve the issue.

When you aggree to a contract for autorenewal you aggree to a subscription

Non payment is not notification off cancelation or the cancelation off your contract

You must turn off autorenewal before the subscription renews
