downscaling to 1080 causing forced minimisation of application

    Hi all,

As of November 1st something changed somewhere on my PC which lead to games I play in 1080 to minimise on launch, then whenever i try to maximise them they automatically minimise. Games I play in 4K (my monitors max resolution) work fine, Games I play in windowed mode work fine, but 1080P full screen causes the glitch to occur.
These same games worked fine on October 31st, so something must have changed overnight between the 31st and the 1st. but i have no idea what.

multiple games are affected so I can rule out it being an issue with the software, and I suspect it may be something to do with the process the PC uses to downscale from 4K to 1080P (but I don't understand the process well enough to trouble shoot it.

Things I have tried (several of these recommended when I searched the issue on google under several search terms):

    • turning my computer off and back on again multiple times.
    • updating graphics card drivers
    • scanning for windows updates and applying any that were found
    • scanning my PC for Malware and other forms of malicious software
    • shutting down all programs on the task bar and system tray
    • Running as administrator
None of the above actions made any effect.

I even search for anything that might force my resolution back to 4K and therefore cause a paradox, but I couldn't find anything that might do such a thing (there might be something but I am unaware of it if there is.

Any advice on what i can try next would be much appreciated as I am out of ideas.

    :)

downscaling to 1080 causing forced minimisation of application

Hi and thanks for reaching Microsoft Xbox gamer's community. My name is Josef.
I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft Xbox user like you.

Hope you're doing great today despite this Daniel

We can try some things to isolate the problem a bit more, for that try the next and share the results:

    A. Try disconnecting all your external monitors and try with only the main screen connected
    B. Open task manager > select the startup tab > disable all the programs listed there temporarily
    C. Do a clean boot in your PC and try again

    D. Create a new local administrator user in your PC and try from there

downscaling to 1080 causing forced minimisation of application

    Thanks for the assistance.

So i tried the first thing and it worked with my secondary monitor unplugged but not with the secondary monitor simply turned off.

I also tried the disabling start-up programs. it worked with all start-ups off, so I then tried with disabling the start-up items one at a time, and found that it works as long as my printer software isn't running.

I have no idea why printer software would prevent a game from downscaling to 1080P but it seems an update to my printer has caused it.
fortunately I don't need to print while gaming, so I can just launch the printer software when i want to print, will just need to remember to launch it first.

High CPU usage and slow download for Flight Simulator 2020 downloader

I've noticed the Flight Sim 2020 app when minimised uses considerably more CPU (going from 15% to 70% when minimised) and considerably more GPU (18% going to 48% when minimised)

What on earth could cause this to happen?

You would presume the opposite would be true, but it's not the case

I am growing very weary of the Store apps, they cause me nothing but issues during the install compared to Steam or any other game installers

    FIFA 22 and Next-Gen issues

Oh! I see now. Only if the game is in 1080p on a 1080p monitor or TV?

I'm going to test it now on my end with those spec's, My TV is 4k, but I'm going to downscale it to 1080 and also on my console.

Just one quick question mate, did you report to EA also of the FIFA 21 issue with the 1080p resolution?
