downloading onto usb - will the xbox 360 turn off if it takes too long?

hi, we're downloading GTA V onto usb and think it might take a few hours - my daughter is trying to tell me that she has to keep playing on the xbox or it will hibernate or switch off and she will lose stuff and the download won't complete. This doesn't
sound right to me but I don't know for sure so can someone advise please.

downloading profile issues please help!!!!!!!!!!

Greetings, cali kid! Sorry to hear you're having trouble downloading your profile. Hang in there - we're here to help!

First off, are you attempting to download your profile onto your Hard Drive? Are you receiving any error messages?

As a preliminary step can you try downloading your profile onto a USB drive formatted for Xbox:

support.xbox.com/.../usb-flash-drive ? I'd be interested to know if it downloads correctly onto the flash drive.

xbox one not able to stream video off of my Windows based pc!?

On the 360 you can do both using "Windows Media Center". I've been told that that isn't available on X1. I'm sure I could plug in a USB to watch videos.... after downloading them onto it from my computer. However, on 360 I can remotely connect the xbox to
my desktop and play the files directly off the computer through the 360 onto my tv.

Telling me I can use a usb to view videos is like telling me my phone can take pictures if I first duct tape a camera to it.

If you're downloading something off of the dashboard (outside of a game) then it will continue to download even if the console goes idle.

If you are downloading something from with-in an actual game then it all depends on the game itself.

Ok do this in order.

1. Insert a USB stick into your 360. Next format the stick "Setting/System Settings/Storage/(you will see Flash USB as a device.) Select USB and Configure.

2. Turn off your xbox and remove your HDD. Turn on your xbox with just the USB stick in and say yes to the system update. When done go to recover profile and it will now download onto the USB stick

3. Turn off your xbox. Put your HDD back in. Turn on with HDD & USB. Go back to settings/storage/Memory Unit (USB) and select your downloaded profile and "move" it back to your HDD

Thanks for the info Dank. I have a suggestion for you.

What we want to do is download your profile onto a USB drive, as opposed to your HDD.

Format a USB for your console.
Turn off console.
Remove HDD.
Power up console.
Download profile onto the newly formatted USB.

Let us know how that works for you, and we can go from there. : )

Make a mix list; put it on a USB, insert said USB into Xbox 360, turn off in game radio, activate music for as long as you are in the vehicle. Boom.

Seems to be a hard drive related problem.

Most people have got around this by using a USB stick and removing their hard drive from the console.

Formatted a USB "Setting/System Settings/Storage/(you will see Flash USB as a device.) Select USB and Configure.

Turn off your Xbox and then remove your HD. Turned on your Xbox with just the USB in, Say yes to system update. When done go to recover profile, enter your details and it will start to download onto usb.

Once it is done, turn off your Xbox and put the HD back into/onto console. Switch it back on with HD & USB.

Now go back to settings/storage/Menory Unit (USB) and select your downloaded profile and "move" it back to your HD.
