download updates or games while powered off

so the Xbox 360 has the ability to download games while powered off, does the xbox one have the same feature ?

HI

If the console has been set to Energy saving mode then the console will not download any updates whilst it is switched off, if you have the console set to instant on mode then you can change a setting to either allow it to download system or game / app updates
whilst powered off.

I know the Xbox one will download and install updates while in the low powered state. but will it install the disk while in the low powered state?

I have mine on Instant on, and because of this I very rarely see the dreaded 'game requires and update' message. You can also use this feature to download digital games.

Power mode instant on means your Xbox goes to sleep and will download game updates, app updates and console updates while its "off" - it will have some tasks that login and check but it uses very low power to do so - it will also answer "xbox on" in this
mode.

Power mode energy savings means the xbox does actually turn off, it won't download updates while off, it will prompt you to download them when you play a game or launch an app that has a pending update. In those mode you actually see the green screen during
bootup and it takes a little bit longer to start.

If You have your Xbox set to 'Instant On' then all system and game updates will download and install automatically. Meaning no more waiting to play games while updates download/install.

System updates will install but may need you to press the power on button instead of saying 'Xbox On'.

I have my external storage turned off while my Xbox is off. I've never noticed and speed differences with it being off.

Yes it does.

You have to make sure the console is in "low power mode" (if you can turn on your console with your controller your in low power mode) if this is the case then make sure the console is allowed to update games and apps while switched off.

If you don't have an external hard drive then your console will update games even when its switched off.

If you do have an external hard drive (and its USB powered) then you need to make sure that the console is passing power to the hard drive, without that the console cant update games because the games aren't accessible because the hard drive has no power.

The thing is, nothing is my queue downloads to the 360 even while the system is turned on. It just sits there and my download queue doesn't empty at all. I thought I could start downloads on the web while the 360 was powered off as long as background downloads
were enabled and auto update games was on, it would push the download queue to it while off. Guess that is a xboxone feature. So basically I have to keep my 360 powered on for me to download what's in my queue, then when I power it off, it will keep on downloading
whats in there? That's odd that it works like that.

Still doesn't help me though since nothing is downloading while the 360 is on. What else can I try? Thanks!
