double layer bd

Copy protection is not an issue. These are home authored Blu Rays of .AVI and .MOV files. I'm just interested if the drive can read the *format* of the *double layer* BD-R's (holds 50 GB.)

Part of the problem is that publishers are not using dual layer BD media much which is a problem for console gamers. BDXL 100GB disks with three layers can handle most of the largest games. Then BDXL128 is the four layer disk which is more complex to manufacture,

IIRC, there are now triple layer DVDs for 20+Gb of storage space.

also, a Dual Layer BD can hold 50GB of data. it also requires a different laser than normal DVDs in the player and has a scratch resistant coating above the data layers.

SL HD-DVD can hold 15GB. SL BD can hold 25GB. DL HD-DVD and BD can hold twice the data. 100GB you're referring to is Blu-Ray with 4 layers called BDXL.

Sony indirectly rips people off like that & if you have a Blu-ray quad layer disc [BD-XL] you can't use it in your PS3 or any other dual layer device, unless you buy a quad layer BD drive

HD-DVD discs can also hold DVD media on the same layer.. So you can put the HD-DVD disc into a DVD drive & watch your movie... Then put it into your HD-DVD player & watch your HD-DVD movie.. or just watch them both on a HD-DVD drive etc..
