Doom:Eternal - the game was supposed to be a gift, but Microsoft only sent digital copy!

My partner recently purchased Doom Eternal (Standard Edition) for a birthday present, along with some other items..

We received the other items in the post just after the 14 day period, however no game?!

Nothing on any order page etc mentioned it would only come as a downloadable copy, so we phoned the xbox store to see where it was, they confirmed that it was a digital copy and that we should have received a card to confirm the order.. we never did!

The man on the phone instructed us to go online and request a refund, however after reading, will we be eligible for a refund as its after 14 days (as everything else came after that date!) however the game has not been installed or even looked at on the
account!

The game was bought from the microsoft store, but then the person I spoke to on the phone said i needed a code, which I didn’t think would be possible but apparently?

update:

Both accounts are on the same xbox,

the account that was bought on, and the account in which it was supposed to be gifted to..

if both accounts are signed on, can either account play the game/gain rewards etc ?

I have a suspicion that there is no code and you will find the game ready to install on one of the accounts.

Who's ever account that the game has been sent to will need to set the console as their home console. Then both players should be able to play it.

following on from that, just logged on and low and behold the game is there..

both accounts are signed in, but I am unsure of what setting as home console is,

what does this mean? And how do i do this?

Just follow the instruction on this page:

It just means that if you set this as your home console, then you are saying it is your main console and people in your home can also share the games and services on it. If you install games on another console that is not your home console, you can play
it, but no one else can.

You can only change your home console five times a year. So be careful.

This is a little confusing...

Where did you buy the game from? Was it the Microsoft Store? If so, there would be no code and the game will be linked to the account that purchased it. If you purchased it as a gift, then it would require the email address of the account you want to send
it to.

Didn't think you can get game cards with redeem codes delivered. Anyone else can confirm this?
