The Xbox home button shows five tabs, why didn't you make one more and put our avatar there? The avatar application is very hidden and that's why we forget, it has to be visible, ours and our friends' too, to buy the clothes and accessories we saw on our friends' avatar.

in the last few weeks, there was a known issue with the two current Games With Gold downloading. Try to purchase the game through the xbox store on the website as that has been a workaround for some people

Are you trying to perform the purchase from the Xbox console? have you tried using a web browser? this means login to the xbox store and bought it from there. I say "buy" because the cost would be $0 if it's a game with gold title.
