Does Xbox One X do an "echo test"?

I see from my router that my Xbox One X is communicating to 20.83.102.213 and the payload contains "Xbox One Echo Test".

Is this something that Xbox One X normally does? Or is something trying to find out if my Xbox One X can respond to them?

that is a microsoft IP address and is located in the US, it is part of normal communications for the xbox live network.

your headset?

To narrow this down have you by chance tried a Skype echo test on your console? To do that open up the Skype app and give the "Skype Test Call" contact a call to see if you're able to hear your echo. If you're able to hear yourself this definitely sounds
like it might be on the side of your network, in which case you would want to run through this
