    Does Xbox delete old messages from the server?


    Does Xbox delete old messages from their server after a certain period of time, or can they be recovered? I'm trying to find an old message from a friend who passed but when I go to their profile, I don't have a chat history. I just want to know if I can recover it from the cloud or another device or if it is a lost cause.

    Usually if the message is not showing in the message hub is because it expired or it was deleted.

    My name is Mauro and am glad to assist you. We are sorry for this incident.

    Xbox stores chat history for a limited period of time, usually around thirty days. Once the messages are deleted, they are removed from the servers and cannot be accessed directly. There is no way to recovered them onde deleted.

    Just for information: Sending a message and then deleting it doesn't un-send the message or delete it from everywhere. Deleting a message simply deletes your side of the message...however, the message will still be in the other person's inbox (until they choose to delete it) and will still be on an Xbox/Microsoft server somewhere (no idea how long messages are kept by MS/Xbox though).

    Only way to avoid a ban is to not send the message in the first place

    It doesn't matter how old you are and how old he is. Once the police see the messages there will be no amount of explaining that the person can do.

    File a report with the police. If she's deleted the messages they can contact Microsoft to see them as they are stored on the servers.
