Does Xbox copy save data from games on external hard drives to the Cloud?

Recently I’ve had some issue regarding my hard drive. A friend gave me advice saying I should wipe my hard drive in irder to reset it. I would do this but I’m unaware of the nature of the cloud storage. So does the Xbox copy save data from an external
hard drive on to the Cloud or does it have its own place on the hard drive itself? This question is mostly regarding single player games.

    :)

Formatting a Seagate external hard drive

    Hello

So some games on my xbox were non transfering from my internal hard drive to my extern hard drive. I tried a hard reset and plugged the external hard drive to a new USB port. These options didn't work. I then went to the external hard drive section in storage
and clicked format hard drive. Understandably everything on there was uninstalled. My question is will my saved game data be there when I have reinstalled the games? For example story progression or unlocked characters?
    Hello welcome to to forums!

    Just to clarify!

Your game save data are save on your local hard drive and on the cloud if you login on Xbox Live (online)

So don't worry you can delete the games on your external hard drive and the save data are safe on you local hdd or cloud. When you install the game again you will download automatically the save sada from the cloud or get the one of your hard drive!

    Regards!

Transfer game saves through and external Hard drive.

    Hey Varrik296!

At the moment, the only data you can transfer from the Xbox One console to an external hard drive are games and apps. As for cloud storage, when you play a game there will always be a copy stored locally on the console. As you retrieve saves from the cloud
and continue playing, a local copy will also be created.

Hope this helps clear things up! :)

Not very helpful ... Cloud is too small to support my saves

    Skyrim Saved game files

Well, that procedure isn't something that I've seen being done beforehand, given that save files cannot be copied to an external device, only from the console to the cloud and vice-versa. What your friend most likely does is that he/she copies the entire game to the external hard drive, tried to play it on a different console with their account, but when they start the game, the save file is downloaded from the cloud. Sadly, there's no alternative way to recover the save, sadly.

    Xbox complete shutdown

You can copy games to an external hard drive. His saves are stored to the cloud by default.
