If by "regular Xbox" you mean an Xbox One console, then the answer is yes. In order to play GTA Online on that generation of consoles, you need to purchase Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Edition because GTA Online is not sold separately for Xbox One, as is the case with Xbox Series X|S, and it's the most basic version of the game available:

Firstly, I don't play GTAV so I may be wrong here (I just did a quick search) but, based on what is on the Xbox buy page, I would be surprised if you could go back to the old version:

"Continue your journey on Xbox Series X|S and transfer both GTAV Story Mode progress and GTA Online characters and progression to Xbox Series X|S with a one-time migration."

"Note that the profile migration cannot be undone or repeated. Moving your GTA profile from PS4 or Xbox One to a PS5 or Xbox Series X will remove any data from the PS4 or Xbox One."

i have a series X, all i’m tryin to figure out is if there is a way to bring the character from GTA Online X|S To the other GTA full game because it won’t give me an option to log into social club or transfer. It’s just showing the beginner character. It’s not showing my character from GTA online X|S. I have never don’t money glitches by the way.
