    Hey Everyone,

So I updated to the Oct 2018 xbox one release (10.0.17763.2023) on two different Xboxes and I am noticing the upload speed is now reporting quite low in the Detailed Network Stats test for both units. Every other device, laptop, etc all test at 60 Mbps
download / 12-14 Mbps upload on my network, using OOKLA's Speedtest from the various nodes in my area (I have 60/15 business cable). The two Xboxes, prior to the Oct 2018 update, would also reflect these speeds in the detailed network stats test, usually
    ending up around 60/12.5.

Now, they are testing at 60Mbps / 2.4Mbps respectively after updating. I suspect the upload is being throttled, here's some more details that might support that:

    - The upload number doesnt waiver now, at all, meaning no variation. Its cable, so the speeds always vary, but in spec. Sign of it being capped?

    - Internal network transfer behaves normally. 300 Mbps sustained on a 75 gig game (Ark) without issue.

    - Using a SpeedTest app, (There is one that looks just like OOKLA's) from the Xbone App store, yields much better results, up to 10 Mbps upload.

    - I'm using a static IP with internal IPV4, with Teredo, and alternative ports in the 50k range. I doubt Comcast is to blame here as I am a business customer with a dedicated line and no limitations on bandwidth use.

Anyone else seeing this behavior? Just give the Settings > Network > Detail Network Statistic test a go and compare it to results your getting on Speedtest.net or the SpeedTest App.

If you are, either the Network Stats Test has a bug, or the test isnt reporting accurately, or the upload has been throttled.

(Perhaps due to the Alexa update and supporting all those devices?)

    Cheers,

    Ted

    :)

Hey Ted thanks for taking the time to bring this inquiry to us. Short answer no bud we do not throttle speeds, what can happen is the Network Card Cache gets full and causes this type of issues. We suggest clearing it out and letting us know if it helped
    by following these steps:

    Settings

    Network

    Network Settings

    Advanced Settings

    Alternate MAC Address

    Clear and Restart

  5. I to am getting the same responses when I test my xbox s and xbox x. There is an issue here. My down speed is 300mbps and up speed should be 25mbps, but i am getting 9.75mbps. I called Microsoft Xbox support and reported this issue to them.

  6. Hey Nestor!

Tried that and no dice... My speeds are the same as before. 60/2.4 as explained above.

I should also mention that my ping hasnt changed, no packet loss, etc, and my NAT is open.

I have more evidence though that yall might have an issue. Using Edge, I nav'd to speedtest.net and ran that test a couple of times and the results are way better than the internal Detailed Network Statistics test, but still quite low, as its testing over
    Teredo.

I think Teredo might be the key here as I know that's how XB Live tunnels and isolates its network to support IPV6. Perhaps there is an issue on that end?

All other devices in my house, on the open internet, meaning no Teredo, not on xbox live, etc, test normally.

    Cheers,

    Ted

  7. Hey SilverFox!

How are the rest of your devices, PC's, Laptop, etc performing on a speed test?

Just open a browser and go to speedtest.net and run the test. If you have a PC, download the Speedtest app, as its way better and tests jitter and what not. Its also available in the iTunes appstore if you have something made by Apple.

I suspect you'll be close to the 300/25 on everything but the Xbox Ones.

    Cheers,

    Ted

Does the October 2018 Xbone update throttle (decrease) upload bandwidth?

Hey Ted thanks for keeping us in the loop! We also suggest powercycling the Network Hardware (router) by unplugging it from the power for 3 minutes. If all else fails we suggest trying a reset of the console to make sure the issue isn't coming from a failed
    update.

Since the problem might be on the actual OS of the console so we would suggest a
    Soft Factory Reset
(while keeping games and apps) IF AND ONLY IF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA IS MET:

    • There is a stable network connection.
    • The information for all profiles is known (email and passwords)

Once the setup is complete it will ask if we want to keep settings or manual setup lets do manual setup. Give it a shot and let us know of any changes!

    Hello Ted

Here is a link for what was updated in the
    October Update
. Far as I can see, nothing with internet settings was touched. It could be a bug that the update created. You can also report it going to Xbox insider hub app and report a problem.

    Thanks,

    Brad

  10. Hey Nestor!

Thanks for the fast reply. I doubt my router is the issue as everything else is working splendidly in my somewhat large home office. I'll reset my Xbones only as a last resort as that's quite painful. (Plus there's two of them doing this... so I doubt
its a double failed update. Also no other issues)

Would you mind reporting this up the chain? Most users wouldnt notice this issue unless they heavily monitor their internet as I do, as I depend on it to make a living.

    Cheers,

    Ted

  11. Hey Brad!

It might be something with the new Alexa integration. That is certainly going to use upstream bandwidth as it connects to Amazon, AWS, or whatever it uses. That also might be why upload is being throttled, in order to handle the new load of these devices,
    over Teredo, etc.

(I dont own anything Alexa, BTW)

Yall might want to report this up the chain if you havent already.

    Cheers,

    Ted

  12. My laptop speed test is right on, as HD my cell and tablet test all good. I have done the cache clean up and done a factory reset. Did not resolve the issue. I am also running open nat past network wall. It has been just fine until the update.

Does the October 2018 Xbone update throttle (decrease) upload bandwidth?

    Hello TED,

Thank you for keeping us updated. Are you connecting to the internet through WiFi or an ethernet cable? An ethernet cable will give you the best download speed possible. There are different categories of ethernet cords that allow a certain amount of download
speed. An example of this is the CAT6 which allows up to 1 gigabit per second(Gbps). If a high speed ethernet cable is being used, we recommend plugging the cord into a different port on the router or gateway. The priority of devices in the router or gateway settings
may affect the download speed as well. Most dual band routers and gateways will prioritize the first device that is connected to the network. In order to change the priority of devices, the make and model of the router or gateway must be known. An example
of this is the Netgear(Make) R9000(Model). Be sure to let us know the results!

  14. Hey Leonzo!

My entire house is wired with CAT6, so both Xbones are cabled in to a business class Cisco router. Wifi is present, but reserved for tablets, etc. Its funny you mention QOS and Port Priority. My main Xbox One X is on port 1, by itself, and configured as"High
Priority" for the very reasons you mention above. The other Xbox one, an Elite, is not, but that wouldnt matter as the speed tests are ran separately, so there are no packets "fighting" over bandwidth. Hence, their speed test results are identical. Also
for cabling issues, you wouldnt have a perfect speed in one direction and degradation in the other. If the shielding was compromised, or the 4 pairs of twisted wiring, you'd see total signal degradation, slowness on both ends, and connection drops. Also,
it wouldnt be able to connect at, and maintain, the 1Gbps speed that Cat5e or Cat6 cabling provides. I should also mention that the connection to XB Live is stable and never drops, which is another indication the network layer is solid.

(I have some Cisco and Network Engineering training/experience)

These copy/paste support answers are not going to get us anywhere. Can yall please escalate this issue?

My concern is this update hasnt been pushed out yet and required. Once it is, the sky might fall, if there truly is an issue or throttling of the upstream bandwidth, either by the console itself, or by the Teredo tunneling and that network layer.

Do yall have some xbones in support you can update and give the Detailed Network Stats test a try? Then try a SpeedTest on another device. The results should be close. They were until I updated to the Oct 2018 release...
The upstream has clearly been effected.

    Cheers,

    Ted

  15. Hey SilverFox!

Bump... we might need more data to have MS address this issue. Can you reach out to your gamer buddies and have them post their speeds after updating to the Oct 2018 Release (its soon to be enforced anyway). Both from the Detailed Network Stats test, and
from a SpeedTest of a non Xbox device on the same network? I support mostly my kids playing on XB live, so I'm not much of resource here... other than having a networking skillset and the occasional PUBG match. =)

I've also pondered that it might not be an update issue, but an issue with xbox just throttling upload over Teredo... or the Detailed Net Stats test just being bugged.

    Cheers,

    Ted
