Does a disc work if I installed the game from gamepass

Hello, I need to know if I install a game on gamepass and then my gamepass expires and I keep that game installed and then buy the disc version of that game would it work with the disc or would I have to unistall the game and then reinstall it with the disc since I got it off gamepass?

(Also sorry if my grammar is not the greatest)

Just make sure it is the same version!

Well that's the issue I can't play it at all. I can't install the game off the disc. Put the disc in and nothing happens, I can hear it running the disc it just never starts up. Every other game works. It only does it with the two games I had downloaded
through gamepass that are no longer all my system. Nor do I have gamepass anymore

When GTA V became available on GamePass i traded in my physical copy and clicked on the GamePass version, it did a quick update and i was ready to play. My assumption is that the Game will install from the disc and the disc has to be in the console to
verify that you own the game. As soon as it was available on GamePass so long as you have GamePass you can just click to play it all the same. The way to check this is to simply take your game out of the disc drive and click on it to play and see if it works.
If it does an update just look at the size of the update. If it is just a few GB then it's merely an update of some sort but if its a full 70GB then you know it wants to reinstall the game (but that didn't happen for me).

The game does not start/install from disc. I uninstalled the game from the Xbox to see if that would help, but i does not.

I have tried to download the game (Trial version) and that works and I got access to my save games and my progression. It just wont start from the disc.

I have tried to install the game from disc with a newly created microsoft account after a factory reset of the Xbox - that works.

All games are installed to HDD (Internal or external USB) and are run from there regardless if they were purchased on disc or digital. Any games that you previously purchased on disc which are now included in GamePass no longer need the disc inserted to
confirm your purchase license as long as the title remains in GamePass as the system knows you are entitled to play it based on your GamePass subscription.

It remains to be seen what happens when a previously purchased disc title is removed from GamePass. Some of my disc titles fall into this category of having been added to GamePass however I can't comment about that leaving GamePass experience until it happens.
