Do I need live gold in order to redeem a prepaid Xbox card?

I read all the info online and on the back of the prepaid Xbox cards, but one thing is not clear to me. I want to know if I need LIVE Gold in order for me to get games online. The way it's worded on the Prepaid card is confusing because it looks like I don't
need Gold for games, but then it looks like I need it for things like music. I plan on using the prepaid card for purchasing games on my Xbox 360 (and maybe on my Xbox One in the future). But I would like to know if I need to spend 30-60 dollars to purchase
Gold, pay for a prepaid card, then finally buy the game, or if I can just simply buy the prepaid card, and then buy the game.

You do not need an Xbox LIVE Gold membership to purchase or redeem Microsoft Points.

I have a $26 credit to use for my Xbox Gold Live card and I cannot redeem it what do I need to do to purchase apps in order to use the credit

You can purchase 360 games from the marketplace even without a gold membership though prepaid cards of MS currency.

Gold membership for 360 includes benefits regarding online multiplayer and discounts so its the choice for serious gamers.

Thanks for making your post, just to clarify is the issue occuring with a Pre-Paid Microsoft Currency/ Xbox Live Gold gift card? Or a pre-paid Visa debit card?

Hi Lucillex,

Xbox Live Gold can be purchased using a credit card or using a prepaid 25-digit redeemable code you can buy from many retailers.

If you don't have a credit card, it's best to go with the prepaid cards. Once you purchase one from a retailer, you can redeem the code in a number of ways. I'll provide an article that explains how to redeem an Xbox Live Gold prepaid subscription code:

It's a fact the MS Points cards or MS Prepaid cards for Xbox Live Gold, can only be redeemed by LIVE accounts based in the country of purchase.
