    Do I need an Internet connection to play Xbox one?


    I got my mentally challenged brother a Xbox One for Christmas. I was told by the store employee that he did not need an internet connection to play games on this console. However, after hooking it up, he can’t play NASCAR Heat without using my hotspot connection.
    I’ve changed the settings to offline but I still cannot get it to play. Is there a way for him to play it? He does not have internet connection.

    a lot of games have day one patches. It will be really tough owning xbox one without internet

    I'm thinking of buying an Xbox one next month but first I need to know some things...

    I know once you take the console straight out the box and connect it, you'll need internet connection to do the initial set up. But after that, can I play games offline without ever connecting to the internet? I've heard that once you put a new disk game into the console, you'll need to install the game first. Would I be able to install the games offline? Or would they need an internet connection to install the new games? Also, I've read that you don't need to connect the console to the internet every 24 hours to play games but at the same time I've read that you do need to connect it every 24 hours to play so I'm completely confused with the mixed answers.
    Hopefully anyone can answer all my questions, it'll be really useful.

    I presume you have an Xbox One S?

    If so, you need to be connected to the internet for the console to be able to download the game.

    Games DO NOT play directly from the disc.

    I can't, it says that it's not connected to the internet. My xbox one is connected to the internet but when I try to play a 360 game on the xbox one it says that it can't connect to the internet.
