Do gamertags update if the gamertag root becomes available?

Hi - I have one question on gamertags.

Let's say my gamertag is example1#2546, meaning example1 is the gamertag I chose and
#2546 is the numeric string that was added because another guy, Bill, owned the
    example1 gamertag.

Now if Bill changes his gamertag and example1 becomes available, will my gamertag automatically change to
    example1 with #2546 being removed?

If not, I guess I could still be able to change my gamertag manually to example1. But unfortunately the system seems to consider the gamertag
example1#2546 as exactly the same as example1. In fact if the guy owning example1#2546 tries to change his gamertag to
example1 the system would just respond that the example1#2546 already owns the
example1 gamertag before even checking if example1 is available or not. So how to remove the numeric string?

The only option that comes to my mind is to change from example1#2546 to something else, let's say
eggplant69, and then change back to example1. But this would require two gamertag changes that cost €9.99 each.

Hope I managed to make myself clear.

    Thanks for your help.

    :)

    xbox username reset

By username reset, you mean when old disabled account names will become available again, names become available when they come available.

With the gamertag update back in 2019, there is no reason for them to do any mass tag releases More information about the gamertag update can be found here.

Is it possible to un-claim a GT ?

If I remember correctly, Microsoft updated their policy regarding gamertags. If a gamertag haven't been logged in once during five years, it will become available again. Or you'll have to pay $9.99 + Tax to change the gamertag.

    Need Tier 3 support!

You mean you want a name to be released that isn't yours nope tier 3 won't help you because a it is random and gamertag are not an on demand service when it becomes available it becomes available

As people do try and sell released names it is unannounced when they do if ever release certain gamertags

    Next Xbox Gamertag Wipe?

Unless they make an actual announcement about doing it, there's no way to know if/when gamertags will become available.
