Distorted audio on Xbox One X

I was mid game and my audio got distorted, I thought it was my headset so I bought a new one but it’s the same.

I’ve tried updating my controller, messed with my audio settings a bit, changed controllers and changed the headset but it’s the same. The only time when the audio is fine is on a TV speaker, so I think it’s my xbox settings I just don’t know what to change.

Did you check your hdmi cables and your xbox display settings?

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

Select System > Settings > Display & sound > Video output.

Select Video fidelity & overscan.

Under Display, select HDMI.

I just changed that option to HDMI and my HDMI cables are plugged in as normal. However, the audio is still distorted for both Windows Sonic and Stereo Uncompressed

yup this happens to me at random......also audio is distorting at random to! what on earth is wrong with this thing!

I found the following solution from a previous post: Hope it helps!

We have partially solved the issue by getting an Xbox headset adapter. Yes, you need an adapter even for the newer controller with the 3.5mm jack port that comes with the Xbox One S or X.

The headset adapter we bought is not a genuine Microsoft one (those are hard to find even at the MS store) and we are still experiencing somewhat distorted audio.

We have had to set the gain to 0 for it to be recognised by the system ("Hey Cortana" is going to be your new friend), and reduce the Volume knob a bit to limit the distortion. Originally we had full volume
and 50% gain, but our voices were so distorted (I'd say "amped") that Cortana could not even recognise us.
