    Display unsyncing / Games flickering when launched


    Has anyone experienced a problem recently on Xbox One wherein when a game is launched the TV screen after a few moments defaults back to the blank HDMI or will go completely black with occasional flickers of the game in the background? Have tried changing from HDMI direct input (recently set this up) back to Wifi and that didnt affect the problem in any way. Also tried messing with some of the video settings as referenced in a few articles but that didnt do it (probably didnt help that I had no damn clue what I was doing). Interestingly this problem only affects some games, although it is the majority, but not all.

    Any advice appreciated!

    Hello @SRB09! I hope that you are doing well today!

    Since you have already tried few solutions already, I will list below some more. Please give it a try and let us know how it goes!

    Restart your Xbox console:

    1. Press and hold the Xbox button in the center of your Xbox controller to open the Power Center.
    2. Select Restart console.
    3. Select Restart.
    Run the HDTV calibration tool:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
    2. Select Profile & system > Settings > General > TV & display options.
    3. Select Calibrate TV.
    4. Follow the steps to finish calibration.
    Also, follow these troubleshooting steps:

    1. Power on your devices in the following order, waiting for each device to fully power up before starting the next device:
      1. First, power on your TV.
      2. Once your TV is displaying a picture, power on the AVR.
      3. Power on your Xbox console.
    2. Use the Input button on your TV's remote control to switch the input source of your AVR away from the console, and then back (for example, switch from HDMI1 to HDMI2, and then switch back to HDMI1).
    3. Restart the AVR.
    4. Set your TV connection to HDMI:
      1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
      2. Select Profile & system > Settings > General > TV & display options.
      3. Select Video fidelity & overscan.
      4. From the Overrides dropdown, select HDMI.
    If the issue persist, I would suggest trying different HDMI cables.

    Hello, My name is Jesse. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

    I'll recommend you do a power cycle to clear the system cache

    - Turn off your console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.

    - Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 2 minutes.

    - Plug the console power cable back in. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on and check if it's all good.

    If that doesn't help, I'll suggest you try doing a factory reset keeping games and apps on your console. This will refresh the console and remove all potential bugs without deleting any game data.

    - Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

    - Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info.

    - Select Reset console.

    - Choose Keep Games and Apps

    Once that is done, you'll need to sign into the console using your Microsoft account credentials. If the issue is with your console, that should fix it.

    Thank you for your response.

    This happened couple of months ago when trying to play blu-ray movie, restart solved the issue.

    Since watched few different blu-ray and uhd movies. Watched one this morning (uhd), in the evening tried to play blu-ray and display started flickering. Restart didnt help. Tried to play uhd which I watched this morning, display is flickering, tried few
    different blu-ray's - display flickering.

    Power cycle - done

    Persistent storage - done

    Bluray app reinstalled

    Cables and ports checked, unplugged- plugged

    Settings on the tv, checked, unchanged

    ***I have played a game from disc and no problems. If I was to uninstall the game and install it again from a disc, would that eliminate possibility of faulty disc drive***

    Hi Indy Crew, could you try going to settings/system/console settings/display and disable display discovery. Do you then still get this flickering effect ?
