Discless play

So without being able to know (or wanting to know) the details of your purchase history, it's one of a few things:

• You own it digitally
• It is via Game Pass, and your console is set as Home console as someone who owns Game Pass
• Something similar to the above, like another user being signed in that has Game Pass, etc.
• You're lucky for now and the validation of owning the disc based game hasn't checked and you can play it until it needs to connect and check license validation.

Really there is no way for us to know your specific situation without checking your purchase history, subscription billing, or Home console settings.

When you load up Just Cause 3 or Minecraft do you see a box innthe bottom left corner that says GamePass? It pops up for a few seconds. I do believe that even if you installed a game via disk it will work if it has been added to GamePass and you are a subscriber.

Also, I think both games are available via Gamepass.

If it is not GamePass it will be interesting to know what is allowing this to happen.

When you figure it out, do update us. I would love to know

It could be services like Game Pass, or the disc is still in the console, but he took the case, or you own a digital copy of it, and when it was installed, it's still recognizing your purchase. Could be any number of things. But Game Pass, Free to Play
Weekends, Xbox Live Games with Gold, could all be explanations for you being able to play the game, but we wouldn't be able to be definitive without seeing your purchase history.

Do you have a game pass subscription? If so you can play any games that you own or have installed that are currently in game pass without a disc. If or when the game leaves game pass you will either need to put the corresponding disc in or purchase the
game digitally to continue playing if you so wish.

^Yes. Same goes for any game EA game you own that goes in the vault. Sell that disc for discless play.
