Disc reading issues.

Ok so I own 2 xbox ones. One reads discs with no problem and the other can't even read the disc. I have tried power cycling a number of times and still nothing. It reads DVD. CD. Blurays and xbox one games fine. What is wrong with this xbox I have tried
a number of 360 games?

Xbox disc reading issues.

So I've had this problem for a while now and it sort of comes and goes as it pleases. I insert a disc (let's say for the sake of discussion Overwatch) and it starts to read the disc but then stops and does the same thing about three to four times. So I've
done all the basics cleaned the disc, hard reset my system, everything in the book but the problem is that it's not constant. I have to keep taking the disc out and then putting it back in for games like Overwatch and Destiny but with games like Mass Effect
and Final Fantasy, the disc will read on the first try and I'll be taken straight into the game. I've had some friends say that they had this issue and they had to send their Xbox in for maintenance, some have been saying that I just need new discs of certain
games and others have been saying that it's a sign that my Xbox is about to pack up and that it's time to get a replacement.

I'm hoping that someone here can tell me what to do, I really hope that I'm not going to have to get a new Xbox or send it in for maintenance, I'm strapped for cash as it is and any money I do have I've been saving for the Scorpio release. Plus this Xbox
has been with me for three years now and I want it to last me until September or whenever this new system is going to be dropping.

This is all to familiar.Had this myself 5 times now with the xbox one,it sounds like your disc drive is on it's way out i'm afraid.

You can try the trouble shooting steps here
https://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-one/console/disc-error but it does sound like it will give up eventually & have to be sent to Microsoft for repair.

If it's 3 years old it won't be under warranty so i'd personally try & stick with it until you can buy a new console instead of paying the amount of money Microsoft will want to repair it only for it to break again after 4 or 5 months.

It's quite a common problem,the disc drives are poor quality,especially on the older xbox ones.

Tried all these steps. I don't get how it can be faulty as it plays everything else sept 360 games. Yes they are backwards cos they work on my other console.

 

Thanks for trying the steps. Are you in the Xbox One Preview program by chance on either console? Does the console need an update if you check?

You can find out by doing these steps.

1. Scroll left from Home to open the guide.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select All Settings.
4. Select System.
5. Select Console info & updates.

No the console ain't in the preview. But I have just signed it up to. To see if this is the cause.

Thanks for letting us know! An alternate solution we can try out is
Factory Restoring that Xbox One console to see if that affects any change. When following the steps on that page, be sure to just select 'Reset and keep my games & apps'. Let us know how it works out!

 

Ok so I have now done a reset. Still 360 games are not working also tried DVD and CD and now they both don't work.

 

Sorry to hear that resetting didn't work. It sounds like your Xbox One Console might be in need of repairs. At this point, I would recommend starting the repair process through the Online
Service Center.

Thanks for the link i have just requested a repair for the xbox. one trouble is that the link to how to pack your xbox in a box fails to load and leads you nowhere. I am also disappointed that MS are shipping out faulty consoles as i have had this console
only a week. Before sending the console off do i need to reformat the drive to delete all data and profiles?

 

Also what happens about my gold that i have paid for on the account as now i have to send it off and miss out on playing on the console?

 

Also when shipping off the parcel. Do I need to go to a depo or do they come to me asking for the parcel?

To clarify, if you recently purchased you Xbox One, it may be quicker to exchange it at the retailer. I would check in with the store you purchase for before shipping off your console.

You should receive instructions to your e-mail with steps on how to ship your Xbox One. You would need to take the parcel to the depot that the included shipping label is intended for.
