Disc Copies act as Digital Downloads

For some strange reason, My console is allowing me to play certain games I have disc copies of to play them with the disc tray being empty...

Is anyone else having this issue (I know it not a bad issue)

I am the only signed in and there is only two profiles on my console.. Both profiles have never bought a digital copy of those games.

are you digital or physical this gen?

I prefer hard disc copies. As opposed to digital downloads.

Mine does this with Battlefield 4. We have the disc but we also have EA Access. I was thinking that since we have the digital rights now, no need to put the disc in.

You will not need to download it again.

The game that is loaded from the disc is the same game that would be digitally downloaded. The disc just acts like a license, while if you bought it digitally, your account acts as the license.

easy solution... MS's plan the whole time was to go all 100% digital.. their initial plans was to not even include a disc drive... let the physical discs act like they currently do... buy, sell, trade. lend etc...let the digital downloads act like they way
they wanted.... the DRM would not be in issue with DD's/ Most that do DL, would understand, you cannot trade or sell a digital copy... this would enable some sort of revised family sharing plan... make it only DD's... simple simple...

It's not a "DLC code", just a digital copy of the game.

Yes, one can use the disc to install a game, then activate a digital copy. The digital copy will not need to re-download, it'll automatically use the disc install.

Hi there.

To answer your question when buying a physical copy the disc is used as a "licence key" essentially its proof that you own the game otherwise one person can buy the game and pass it along to an unlimited amount of people.

When you purchase a digital copy the licence key is in the way of a small download able file.

The disc simply acts as a key to a lock
