Hm...thats still progress, i will play with this tonight as well. It means that the tuner can still do a free scan and is not necessarily locked to the frequencies of the providers, which is good.

Indeed, a CI module and a normal, non-restricted tuner would be a panacea

I've changed my region back to UK and enter my Swiss area code, it'll say it couldn't locate this area code (duh), but I can skip that and continue to do a scan. It finds all channels, scrambled and unscrambled, that would be available to me but it wont
save them, or let me watch.

You can't setup from the normal settings page. Instead, from the home screen go up to the notification area, there it should say TV tuner found, something like that.

Also, next time MS, please include a CI+ module

tried this and no joy it doesnt find anything. Still stuck with X1 and an HTPC with WMC. So annoyed with Microsoft that they not only cripple their devices in his way, but even worse - cant even ensure THEIR own products works seamlessly across. There's
no native way to connect a whs2011 to X1 for example or not smart way of using my WMC via x1. plain stupid

I am exactly with the same issue. Picked it up from Germany, and because i watch UK channels via my local tv provider in Allschwil i thought it would pick them up. But because the tuner is hardcoded to the frequencies of certain providers and cannot do a
free scan it fails. Have you had any luck with it? Microsoft doesnt stop to amaze me by imposing ridiculous limitations which nobody else has. ANY tuner would and should be able to do a free scan picking up the frequencies available and not fixing only to
some.
