    Microsoft Flight Simulator is a game that is part of the Xbox Play Anywhere catalog, which means you can download it on both an Xbox console and a PC with the same purchase without any issues. No matter which device you install it on first, you can also install it on the other one and play it with the same license. Additionally, you can uninstall the game and reinstall it whenever you want on either of those two devices.

    Physical to Digital Update

    Unfortunately it isn't yet possible to convert a physical game into digital, it's two different licenses. You need to purchase a new digital game license.

    You would have to purchase the game digitally in order to play it on a Series S. The license to play the game is on the disc. Without being able to rea the disc, the console won't see that you have a license to play it. If you purchase it digitally, you'll have a digital license to be able to play without the disc.

    If you own the game digitally, it will always play digitally, even if you perform the instructions above. The data for the game is the same so the system just reads your digital license instead of reading the disc license.

    Well, Draw, that all depends on the terms of the license agreement you make with the publisher. A digital license is just that. A physical copy of the game still only grants you use of it according to that license, but it can be sold according to U.S. law.
    To my knowledge digital licenses are not regulated by any such law.
