Different power options explanation?

Hi everyone, I am Autistic and could really do with some help as I’m struggling to understand the different power options on my new Xbox Series X.

I have a 1TB expansion Seagate plugged in at the back of the console.

There are two power options: shutdown (energy saving) and sleep.

When shutdown (energy saving) is selected, I note that under customise power options the option ‘when console is off, turn off storage’ is greyed out.

Does that that mean that when shutdown is selected, the storage of both internal and external shutdowns too and that’s why you cannot select that option? It says on shutdown (energy saving) that it supports automatic updates of consoles and games, does this mean game updates on internal storage will update? Does it also mean game updates on external storage will update too?

For the option ‘sleep’, it lets me then select whether I want the ‘when console is off, turn off storage’ setting either enabled or disabled. If I leave it enabled, does both the internal storage and external storage turn off if I select this and does that mean no games will install or update? If I disable ‘when console is off, turn off storage’ and allow it to remain enabled, does that mean both internal and external storage is still on and I can basically do everything - remote play, install games, update games etc.

Sorry for my long question, it’s just all a bit confusing!

Thank you. Also I have been changing the energy saving mode to fast start up and I note that after changing the Xbox Series X back to energy saving mode, if I turn the device back on it loads instantly but if I leave it a little while then it performs as expected with the Xbox logo and delayed startup.

Is this normal? Thanks!

instant on is kinda like a computer in "sleep" mode imo....if you are on and off your xbox all day long , I would use it ....I only get on mine in the evening so I don't use instant on as I like it to boot up fresh each time.... but its your call really...

Yes it does power it down completely if you select full shut down

I now changed my options to shut down as I only play at night after work, I also think a fresh boot up will be better
