    as with all hardware, when an item reaches end of life, meaning it is not cost effective to make anymore due to very little sales, aged hardware and moving onto newer hardware, then they stop producing said hardware.

    Xbox Live Support/Online Team did a major reset of old gamertags in March of 2011. Those accounts were from the original Xbox and did not transfer over to the 360, since they were also discontinued a year after the original Xbox Live ended. Nobody knows
    when Xbox IF or will even do another reset.

    Completely technically possible as RED SHIFT mentioned... you could put a game on the original Xbox and play both Xbox 360 and Xbone players if some developer wanted to do it... of course, there really is no need to do it and MS had discontinue Xbox support,
    etc. Technically they are all hardware that can run code.
