    I have Windows 8.1, Version 6.3 and build 9600 on a HP Pavilion g7 laptop. I have been playing for about a year with no trouble and now Microsoft Solitare Collection will not load or start, message says that my developer license has expired and need to renew.
    I am not a developer, what happened, was using the game this morning just fine.

    Developer License

    You need to uninstall and reinstall the app. This will fix the issue. Developer License :)

    Backwards compatibility and what makes one game compatible over another.

    All about developer licenses, the technology to emulate the games is there, but it is ultimately up to the developer to make itr happen.

    Xbox does not have anything to do with the licensing for the games. The game developers control the license for the game. If the game developer wants to let that 360 game playable on the Xbox One, the developer is the one that will allow it.

    The 360 emulator is already built into the Xbox One to allow 360 games to work on the Xbox One.

    What's everyone's thoughts if Microsoft offered some sort of buy back program or digital trade-in for credit in the marketplace?

    I don't think that would work. The majority of the games are not by Microsoft to begin with. They just handle the money and the license for the developer.

    It would be better if the developer would give you a credit/discount based on your license/version of the previous game or games you've bought from that developer as an incentive to keep buying the next version of their game.
