Dell P2314H hdmi to dvi not working from console

The 360 does not require HDCP for gaming. It's only required for DVD or HD DVD playback. This is something of a moot point as the Dell 2209WA supports HDCP.



HDMI to DVI may be an issue if the device on the other end has issues with errant signals. This can happen if the cable wired audio to DVI pins (it shouldn't, but anything's possible).



Dell's documentation on the 2209WA indicates it'll accept all the "normal" HDMI signals - 480i/480p/576i/576p/720p/1080i/1080p. As a regular display it'll also accept all resolutions the 360 can output.



Seems like the cable could be an issue. Best to try another, or an HDMI cable with an HDMI to DVI adapter.

This doesn't seem to work. Something I've got wrong sorry, is it's actually outputting to DVI as I'm going from HDMI to a DVI monitor so it's detecting the DVI connection not the HDMI signal.

I'm just dumbfounded with the fact that my Xbox 360 Slim seemingly works on any display except my personal Dell 2408WFP monitor (even though it worked 7 months previously), and any other DVI/HDMI device (including other 360s) work fine on the 2408WFP.

It's like my 2408WFP monitor broke-up with my 360 Slim because it had an affair/cheated on it with the dell 2208WFPt monitor. >_<

That monitor only has DVI-D and DisplayPort inputs. DVI-D only allows for digital connections. VGA is analog. The two do not work together.



There's also no XBOX DVI cable. Microsoft officially only supports HDMI. From the

manual for the monitor, HDMI to DVI would work as the monitor can accept 1680x1050. It may work with 1920x1080, but that's not a listed resolution in the manual. You'd either need to buy an AV Port to HDMI adapter (somewhat rare, not usually cheap), or
a new console that has HDMI output.

it's not. HDMI and DVI carry the same video data. HDMI was also designed to be backwards compatible with DVI from a signaling perspective. The extra audio data that HDMI can carry does not normally cause a problem.

HDMI to DVI setups are not supported
by the system,

They're not supported from an official perspective because MS never made an HDMI to DVI cable. They're supported from a console perspective as MS supports manual resolution selection when the connected display does not enumerate its display
options to the console.
