That GT you want will not be released any time soon. As far as has been posted and published there was only a one time (earlier this year) release of said inactive/defunct tags and there are no immediate plans to perform another wave at this time. This
is not to say or suggest that Microsoft is not silently releasing tags back into the wild over time, unpublished, leaving it up to the community to 'gobble up' when they are freed.

Please note that this process takes 60 days after you choose to do this and that this will not free up the gamertag for taking for others. This will also erase all purchases done with the account and they can not be moved from one account to another. Also,
this deletes the microsoft account, not the xbox account attached to it.

If you wish you switch gamertags to another account you will need to purchase gamertag changes to move it around.

Also, would switching email addresses fix your problem?

Please notethat you can only change TO and email that is not Outlook, Live or Hotmail.

 

You will need to sign into your account and do this yourself.

There is no way to do this externally for security reasons.

It's sad to see you go, but please note that your account will take 30 days before closing definitely.

I would suggest to transfer your account to a different email address,

because if you delete your account, you will lose every single digital purchase (games, DLCs, apps, etc.)
for good and it cannot be undone!
