  1. Default to the most baseline version of backwards compatibility when playing Xbox Live...

I have probably one of the strangest problems. I have some friends who upgraded to the Xbox series S or X, and some who are still on the Xbox One.

I can match make and challenge people on the machines but there are two issues.

Even if the game is the same version and the same license they are not the same game and are not intercompatible Xbox Live wise if I'm on my Xbox Series and challenge someone else on an Xbox One.

Now I do have both systems and I mainly keep my Xbox One for these type of matchup issues plus 3D Blu-rays and Xbox One Kinect games.

The second is if there's three or more people in the same group we all have to sync and it might be impossible if one only has a one and another one only has a series.

I know the argument for these newer versions is better graphics. The problem is these graphics updates are segregating the Xbox pool into two or three separate ecosystems that are very hard to tether together.

Maybe for online purposes it always defaults to the least intense version. So that if you're playing a game that's backwards compatible on 360 it'll all assume you're on Xbox 360 for ludistic purposes and give you a 360 worthy presentation but turned online with your IRL friends as well as a bunch of strangers.

It's a cost of improving games is decreasing a player pool then no thank you. That explains why I have a tough time finding opponents in some games.

    Question about backwards game compatibility

Generally if the games have a 360 version and a One version, they most likely will not be made backwards compatible and you would need to purchase the One version in order to play them. Otherwise, they'd have to be backwards compatible in order to be able
    to play them.

    Red dead redemption goty

    Hi there,

please double check if your Xbox One console is fully updated (and connected to Xbox Live) since this is a requirement to install a Backward compatible game.

When using a disc the backward compatible game will still be downloaded from Xbox Live, since that is the backward compatible version (it will require the play disc to be inserted in order to play the game)

Since you mentioned discs, please be sure to insert the correct one (when console is connected and is updated). that usually should trigger installation.

    Game question

    Hi there,

    Depends on which GTA game.

If it was GTA V, there is a 360 version and an Xbox One version. The 360 version is not backward compatible to be playable on an Xbox One. Unless the publisher was offering a deal at the time - purchase one version and receive the other, then no.

If it was GTA IV, that one is on the list of backward compatible games that are playable on an Xbox One.

The most current list of backward compatible games can be found

transfer digital download xbox 360 game to xbox one?

    Hi,

As some additional information. to the answer already specified.

The backward compatible game while it is the same game the download is basically different version of the game, being the backward compatible version of the game. This is also the reason why inserting a backward compatible game via disc will result in the
backward compatible version being downloaded (disk is still required to start the game)

So in order for you to download that backward compatible version you will have to login to the Xbox Live Account that is used on the 360, which allows you to download backward compatible games that you own.

    Xbox 360 and Xbox One

    Hello Gabriel,

Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. You can most definitely do this if you are playing backwards compatible games. If the game is on 360, and also on the Xbox one as a backwards compat title, then you guys will be able to play with each other
through Xbox live (If the game permits it).

Check out the backwards compatible game list here : Backwards compatible Game Library
