    Deal with accidental account that forced my current username to have a tag attached?


    This is a bit of a bizarre one, to say the least, but when I created my account I believe it created a second account or something, that then forced my current account to have this tag attached.

    My current account (Gallerine5582) appears in games with the tag, which I would like to avoid. Now I understand that the tag system was introduced to allow multiple users to share the same username, but I was wondering if there could be anything done about the "secondary" account that was created so that I may use my own username WITHOUT the "5582" tag.

    Provided I don't have the log-in for the old account, could any action be taken on that account or something to free up that space and I could get rid of my current tag to have a "unique" username? I've done a couple of checks of public info on the "Gallerine" account and have seen no activity except a single follower, so I believe that it was an accidental creation that has forced my current username to have this tag.

    I'm pretty sure this was not an accidentally created account since only one Xbox profile can be "created" on a Microsoft account. The Xbox profile is part of your Microsoft account, it cannot be transferred to another account and you cannot have two Xbox profiles on the same Microsoft account.

    Now, for a gamertag to free up, the account must be totally inactive for more than 2 years if I'm not mistaken. But the gamertag/Xbox profile is used for more services than just playing games, so even if the account does not play any game in 2 years, it is not certain that the gamertag would be free up.

    Unfortunately, there is no way to know that. There is no public information about it and I'm pretty sure no Microsoft or Xbox employee will tell you how much time of total inactivity an account has. Sorry about this.

    Now, for a gamertag to free up, the account must be totally inactive for more than 2 years if I'm not mistaken. But the gamertag/Xbox profile is used for more services than just playing games, so even if the account does not play any game in 2 years, it is not certain that the gamertag would be free up.
    I see, thanks for letting me know.

    However, I'm curious about who I should contact if I were to try and find out about if the account is near or beyond that 2-year limit, if it is private info that can't be handed out, or if it the process is just outright automated.

    I understand if that kind of account info could be a risk to hand out, but I believe it's been over that 2 year period since my current account was created, and seeing it has the tag it'd be after the other account.

    force gamertag change

    Ok, a forced gamertag change would change only the tag and not the contents. It's possible that you may have accidentally created a new gamertag overtop of the existing one. Try creating a dummy email address to attach to the tag you're posting with to
    see if that frees up the other.

    Changing WLID to already used email.

    Create a dummy email address and change the WLID on the tag you accidentally created. Then add your WLID to the tag you want it attached to.
