    DDoS attack. Xbox Live hacked?

So Phantom Squad threaten to shut down xbox live. Right at this moment, thousands of users are experiencing problems. My personal Xbox one is bricked, unable to play online or offline games.

Phantom Squad post this to their twitter account "Xbox Live #Offline", and the xbox service alert is telling us nothing of this threat?

How safe is our account information and credit/debit card info? Didn't this same kind of attack happen exactly a year ago?

Answers and honesty is needed now guys.

    :)

DoS or DDoS attack and what to do.

    Overview

If you play games on Xbox Live, you could experience a denial of service (or DoS) attack or a distributed denial of service (or DDoS) attack. Such attacks may render your device (that is, your Xbox 360 console or your computer) temporarily unable to connect
to the Internet or to Xbox Live.

If you have an Xbox Live account, your Xbox 360 console could experience a DoS attack or DDoS attack from another Xbox Live account. DoS attacks and DDoS attacks are sometimes used as retaliation between Xbox Live gameplayers.

If you think you've experienced a DoS or DDoS attack, we recommend that you reset your Internet router and contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP). If you know who initiated the DoS or DDoS attack, you may also want to submit a player review to Xbox Live
and avoid the attacker in the future.

    DDoS attack. Xbox Live hacked?

Their threat is for as you noted a DDOS (Directed Denial of Service) That kind of attack doesn't put any data at risk it simply overloads the servers with more inquiries than they can handle effectively preventing actual traffic from making it in.

Here is what is posted on the status screen currently.

Genesis your condescending post offers no help or answers. Not once did I suggest that a DDoS attack could put my account details at risk but merely implied that if the security is that lax for a hacker group full of children to cause an outage, what else
    is at risk?

Now that we've RE-stated the obvious, what is being done about it? I'd like to have a little more confidence in Microsofts security measures.

    DDoS attack. Xbox Live hacked?

Condescending post, Really?!? I was not being condescending in any way. Just a simple explanation. Everything in your post was about this specific threat. Sorry if you took it the wrong way.

  9. Smh....We pay these companies hundreds of thousands just for membership to xbox live alone. They refuse to pay for better security. This happened same time last year. Seriously? Then reply with, "No service has guaranteed 100% uptime. Things happen, and
when they do, the only reason they are resolved as a priority is because you pay for them to. Microsoft don't have to give any sort of compensation for a short downtime." That's a good way to treat paying customers. Glad other companies don't share your same
point of view on business. Kids are taking down your servers with simple Ddos attacks exactly the same way as last year. Wake up!

  11. Ok nonMonster2191 please tell us how to prevent a DDOS attack? I dont have one, they are unpreventable just like any cyber attack you dont know when its coming or if its coming warning or not. Thats funny microsoft put out a bounty 5 yrs ago worth $200,000
to any professional hacker who could hack there network no one has done it yet and a ddos attack isnt hacking its a overload of the servers.

    Yes nonMonster2191 please enlighten us.

How do you defend against DDoS attacks?

If there was a way to defend against them then these attacks wouldn't happen.

The only defence is for the authorities to track them down and lock them up

  13. DDoS attack. Xbox Live hacked?

As Malacath says lock them up (not in a young offenders holiday camp)

They got hacked a couple of years ago by a 5 or 6 year old by accident of course.

That wasn't a hack, bro. The kid found a breech in the parental controls on his Xbox.
