Data usage and old tech vs new tech

Why is it that the Xbox uses so much data to play a game? It seems to me that if the dreamcast could run on dial up with laptops for servers and play complex games (quake, unreal, etc.) With no lag that Microsoft could figure out a way that I would not have
to use 5 gigs in a 4 hour session. Not all people have gb internet that is unlimited.

It would be great if people who live outside of town could play too.

Does anyone know of a hotspot service that would last a month not counting downloading games?

In the UK the average price for internet is roughly £15 to £25 a month (about $25 to $35) and for that you get fairly decent speeds, usually above 20Mb and to top it off its all unlimited.

You can get much faster than this, but that starts to become a bit more expensive and is harder to get.

a lot of Canadian services have finally moved to an unlimited bucket as well. The FCC is to blame for a lot of America's tech shortcomings.

Most of what we can get here in the US is based strictly on the availability of the location. If you live in the city or suburbs of any major city typically fast and fairly inexpensive internet is available. Once you get out into more rural areas is
the major problem. Service providers don't want to drop small fortune to build an infrastructure for a small number of people that they will most likely never get a return on their investment. It's really just the same issue we have with other things, in
that because of the sheer size of the country it's hard (as in time consuming, expensive, etc.) to do something everywhere.

downloading counts towards gigas consumption,I don't think there are services that don't count downloads. you should get an offer with more gigas.

Must be nice to get unlimited data. Comcast implemented a 1TB data cap for all of their subscriptions in my area. Even for GB speed. Nothing like being charge 10$ for every 50GB you happen to go over. It's an insult honestly. On top of that. I'm fairly
certain that they're throttling Xbox Live services.
