Dark Souls 2

Im looking for opinion from people that have this game if its good to get. Right now they have the game 20 dollars off at gamestop and other places at my area. I have seen footage of it thru youtube and it to me looks great.

It is a Dark Souls forum. Since there was no official Dark Souls 2 forum, people started using this one for Dark Souls 2 as well.

This is just my opinion.

There are some things that are good about it, like the dedicated servers for match making which makes it much easier to see summon signs, find invasions, etc. They also improved some aspects of things like double-wielding weapons.

There are some things that really bug me too, things that were good in DkS 1 that they changed for the worse (like the ability to arrange your items the way you want to) and things that they fixed in DkS 1 due to balance issues that they made worse in DkS
2. For instance, the Dark Wood Grain Ring had to be nerfed in DkS 1 because it was plainly ridiculous that people in heavy armor were doing ninja flips. When DkS 2 came along, they changed it so that you can be at 70% of your weight load and still fast roll,
plus with the addition of a stat that gives you invincibility frames you can have more I-frames than people did with the Dark Wood Grain Ring. So, an issue was seen in DkS 1, fixed, and then they made it worse in DkS 2 for some reason.

I have friends who agree with me that DkS 1 is superior and others who think DkS 2 is superior. At $20 off, it's probably worth picking up.

There are some spots that look better, others not IMO. Mostly the graphics are better though, especially the scenery.

 

Are the graphics actually better? I didn't really pay much attention to them myself, seemed a lot like DaS1, but I've read they actually reduced the graphics compared to DaS1 to avoid the horrible framerate issues the first game had. I still have nightmares
about Blighttown :O

 

I feel like the graphics of the scenery were better in some spots. Heide's Tower is one place I'm thinking of, as well as the Aldia's Keep area (especially after getting to the boss and just beyond).

 

A simple start up of the first Dark Souls will prove that the graphics are better in Dark Souls 2..

 

Dark Souls 2 will not feel like Dark Souls 1, I can almost guarantee this. The movement feels slidely and awkward. The graphics are indeed better. Matchmaking is a lot faster; however, this new concept of Soul Memory ruins it. You will almost never be
paired up with someone who is within reasonable fighting potential of you. You will either completely win or completely lose. There are a ton of new cool items of course. Backstabs have been extremely patched. Personally, I like Dark Souls 1 better.

 

PVP is exteremely different now s back-stabs are not instant and they introduced guard breaks the graphics are wonderful, phantoms can heal themselves as long as theirs no invader, and the game is i find much harder and offers more of a challenge then the
first DS.

 

I thought DS2 felt a lot like DS1. The general mechanics are the same: collect souls, upgrade equipment, talk to NPC's, work through levels, fight bosses, die A LOT.

For the regular game - I thought that DS2 is a bit easier than DS1. The bosses seemed easier overall and the level enemies didn't seem as difficult as they did in DS1. That could be because I've played DS1 and already had a pretty good idea of how to play
these games and what to expect. It could also be that the game was actually intended to be easier on the original playthrough with NG+ marking the start of the real challenge (either through bonfire ascetics or entering a new playthrough).

I haven't found any real problems with soul memory (contrary to what many others will say). I've had a bunch of great PvP battles and I've never had a problem finding a random co-op partner for a boss fight. Either I'm just the luckiest person ever - or
other people are just complaining about soul memory because they don't like change or just need something to complain about.

 

IMO DS2 is a pretty decent game that looks, and plays a lot like DS1. Same basic gamemechanics wich imo is a good thing. Otherwise I dont think it can really be a propper souls game if they where to change the basic concept of leveling up youre hero. I have
to say tho im a bit disapointet in the grafics, and I dont think it ever quite lived up to the promises it made, and look an awful lot like DS1. Hopefull this is going to change in the future when BloodBorn hits the ps4

C'mon now, let's not be like that. There are lots of youtubers that also complain about soul memory, not just me. And, I have legitimate reasons. Try getting your soul memory up to higher levels but not leveling up and see how the PvP goes.
