Xbox Live Gold showing as promotion per Xbox Live Rewards but not per Xbox Support

Thank you for responding. I think I know what happened. At the end of March 2016, I bought two new Xbox 360 E from Amazon and probably got a 1 month Gold promotion for each console that I redeemed in April 2016. However, I already had a Xbox Live Gold membership.
These two promotion just EXTENDED my current membership. Not start a new one. I have been an uninterrupted Gold member since March 2010. I have been just adding new Gold to extend my current membership.

From my POV, the two 1 month trial Gold I got just extended my current membership. For me, it is the same Gold that I had since March 2010. However, I think Microsoft view it differently. It seems from Microsoft POV, each redeemed Gold is viewed separately
and individual. For example, the original Gold I had probably ended Jan 2018 and I am currently using the redeemed promotional Gold from April 2016. Therefore, to Microsoft, it is two different Gold membership. The first one ended and now I am using the second
one. Even though to me, it is one continuous Gold membership.

    Does that make sense?

If I am correct, I am annoyed and frustrated. Because I did NOT know this nor was this my intention. If I had known Microsoft viewed each Gold differently rather than an extension, I would have given away the trial Gold. I would have NOT redeemed it. By
redeeming those trial Gold, I will be losing A LOT of money. That is NOT fair. Especially given the fact, from my POV, all I did was extend my current Gold. I strongly encourage you guys to change this policy.

Furthermore, this issue will probably happen again. I got a promotional Gold with my XB1 in Nov 2016. So sometime in either this year or next year, I will have this issue happen again. Even though you said the buy 3 month and get 3 month is NOT the cause
of this current issue now, it maybe in the future. So when I get to the one I got from Amazon, which would be Oct/Nov 2019, I may have this same issue again.

You have to see this as being frustrated and unfair. I appreciate that I finally, after over 20 days, got clarity on my issue. I understand. So, thank you. However, I am truly annoyed. Even ignoring the original wrong info I got from Xbox Live Rewards on
Twitter and how long it took for a reply from Xbox Live Rewards on forum, I feel screwed out of something I did not intended to do. By redeeming those promotional Gold months ago to extend my membership in April 2016, I am being negatively affected by it 24
months later. And I am probably going to be negatively affected by it again in the future. I have stacked a lot of Gold on my membership so I do not know what is promotion and what is paid.

I have one last question. When I redeemed a paid Gold, Microsoft automatically select auto renewal. I then go unselect auto renewal. However, Microsoft offer me a month Gold to keep auto renewal one. I always accept. Is that gift from Microsoft consider
    a promotional/trial?

Not recognizing I had Xbox Live Gold in Jan 2018

After 21 days, thank you for finally giving me clarity and understanding of my issue. Though I am appreciative that I now know what happen, I am truly disappointed. I have been a 20yrs plus Microsoft user who have used many products and services. Specifically
with the Xbox, I have 4 Xbox, over 700 digital Xbox games, and a Xbox Live Gold member since March 2010. I am not implying that I am entitled but that I am invested. And this entire experience have left a bad taste.

First, Xbox Live Rewards on Twitter refused to assist with providing me with understanding and a solution to my issue. Instead, they just kept on repeating the issue. They were more focus on telling me the problem but not the why and, more importantly, how
to fix it. They ignored my request for a DM chat and, eventually, my tweets all together.

Second, Xbox Live Rewards in the forum takes forever to reply. I am willing to wait the 24-48hrs per the FAQ. However, I had to create several threads to finally get an answer because many were either overlooked nor not followed up on as promised.

Third, I understand the policy that the Gold bonus is only for paid Gold. However, there needs to be some modification and exception to the policy. As I mentioned before, I already had Gold when I redeemed two those promotional Gold. in April 2016 For me,
I was just extending my current same Gold membership. I have also bought additional Gold to, from my POV, keep extending said Gold. I saw it as one continuous Gold. But it is clear that Microsoft counts each redeemed Gold separately and individually. If I had
known that I would have this issue 24 months later, I would have not redeemed the promotional Gold I got with my new Xbox. I will lose more money from not getting the Gold bonus in Feb 2018 than the promotional Gold worth. Therefore, I think the policy should
change. The system should look to see if there was a paid Gold prior to the promotion and a paid Gold after, then count the in between promotional Gold as part of the paid Gold. Because it is clear, the user's intention is to just extend their Gold. The spirit
of the policy is to not to reward non-paid Gold members and to encourage people to get Gold. I am and have fulfilled the spirit of that policy. But because of an unintended mistake 24 months ago, I am being negatively affected by it and will again in the future
because I am not literally fulfilling the requirement of the policy. And that is not fair!

Fourth, I strongly believe that I should get my 10% Gold bonus for Feb 2018. I did not know redeeming the promotional Gold in April 2016 would cause a problem in Feb 2018. I was just extending my current Gold. If I knew this would have happened, I would
    have not redeemed those Gold.

Fifth, given that this issue will happen again because I redeemed the promotional Gold I got with my XB1 in Nov 2016, how can I remove that promotional Gold from my account now? Per Xbox Support, I can't. If there is not a way to remove the promotional Gold,
can you give me a breakdown of my Gold subscriptions so I know what months will be promotional and what is not? Therefore, I will know not to invest in Xbox Live Rewards in those months.

Just please answer my final question. You can close my thread. I am done now.

    :)

Why don't you just reply to their questions in those threads? Instead of creating a topic that has been already discussed more than one time in multiple threads, thus creating an uproar and maybe more confusion for certain people.

    Hello gohan16ken,

We're sorry to hear about your frustrations with the program. We'll take your sentiment and feedback and provide it to the appropriate team. Unfortunately, as has been stated in the FAQ since the beginning of the program:

My Xbox Live Rewards account is not recognizing my Xbox Live Gold membership. What should I do?

Xbox Live Rewards can only recognize paid monthly or yearly standard, non-promotional Xbox Live Gold memberships. If you have a different type of membership, we may not be able to recognize you as an Xbox Live Rewards Gold member.

Since your subscriptions have been promotional for the previous two months, they were not eligible for Gold.

Since subscription modifications are not handled by our program, we cannot assist. You may be able to contact Xbox Support for more suitable assistance with that issue (Sign in to your Microsoft account). Per our
previous escalation to the subscription team, they have already confirmed that your next offer being loaded after March 1, 2018 is a 12 month prepaid, non-trial Gold.
