Crashing Games on Xbox (Beta) App. DCOM Error.

Firstly I want to say I dont have the answer to your problem. I'm honestly confounded by it. After doing some research I was still unable to find an answer. I feel like you should report this to Microsoft through their

Customer Support. This is an issue that they need to know, because it is probably affecting more people than just you. The customer support team may be able to give you additional help on how to solve the issue.

I have been unable to play any games on the Xbox (Beta) App for the last few days. For example, I was able to play "Sea of Thieves" without any issues until a few days ago, when I went to load the game up and it crashed immediately after the initial load/splash
screen showed up.

I went to test another game by downloading it. And the same problem occurred. I just finished reformatting my entire computer and reinstalling Windows. The issue is still present. I can't seem to fix it. I can't play the games I paid for.

Please help with this. I see other people with this issue and I haven't seen a decent response from Microsoft.

The error shows up in the "Event Viewer" as the following:

Unable to start a DCOM Server: Microsoft.SeaofThieves_2.89.8738.2_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe!AthenaClientShipping as Unavailable/Unavailable. The error:

"2147943398"

I found the following on the error message that you received. Try the steps listed here to see if it resolves the error:

1. Open Regedit.

2. Go to HKEY_Classes_Root\CLSID\*CLSID*.

Note: *CLSID* stand for the ID that appears in your event viewer error. In your case, it's {C2F03A33-21F5-47FA-B4BB-156362A2F239}.

3. Right click on it then select permission.

4. Click Advance and change the owner to administrators. Also click the box that will appear below the owner line.

5. Apply full control.

6. Close the tab then go to HKEY_LocalMachine\Software\Classes\AppID\*APPID*.

Note: *AppID* is the ID that appears in your event viewer. In your case it's {316CDED5-E4AE-4B15-9113-7055D84DCC97}.

7. Right click on it then select permission.

8. Click Advance and change the owner to administrators.

9. Click the box that will appear below the owner line.

10. Click Apply and grant full control to Administrators.

11. Close all tabs and go to Administrative tool.

12. Open component services.

13. Click Computer, click my computer, then click DCOM.

14. Look for the corresponding service that appears on the error viewer.

15. Right click on it then click properties.

16. Click security tab then click Add User. Add SYSTEM then apply.



17. Tick the Activate local box.

You should feel comfortable using RegEdit to modify the registry keys.

Tried the above. At Step # 5, when I went to press Apply to put all the settings into effect I received the following error:

Unable to save permission changes on

{C2F03A33-21F5-47FA-B4BB-156362A2F239}.

Access is denied.

The Xbox App and it's games seem to be corrupting the Registry. Great...

Hi Autumn, sorry to hear the game is crashing. Can you tell us what version of the app your using? Does the game also crashing when using the Xbox App (Beta)?
