Controller Xbox One - Windows 7 x64 - Wireless

Hello there ! So this is my first post on microsoft forums, I hope I'm at the right place I didn't know where to post it. Oh and by the way, English is not my primary language, may you forgive me if I do some stupid errors.

Anyway, I would like to buy a Xbox One controller to play with it on my computer. Problem : I'm still running windows 7 and I don't really want to switch to w10 at the moment.

So I did some researches to know if I could use it on w7 but I didn't really find the answer I was looking for. There was too much update on this controller so I heard it was impossible at the begining, but then you could with some drivers you would install
manually and then microsoft did an update and now it's plug and play on windows 7 like it is on windows 10. Result : I'm lost.

So if someone could answer some questions, I would be really glad because at the moment I don't know if it will work or not....

Here are the questions :

- There was 3 versions of the controller right ? Does they all work on w7 (x64) ?

- Can we play wireless on w7 or it just works with the wire ? Heard that you could play wireless with the
OLD microsoft wireless adaptator (the usb key for xbox controller) but not the new adaptator wich is specific to windows 10.

- Would like to buy the RED xbox one controller, does it have a software difference with classic xbox one controller and for some reasons it only work on w10 or it's just a color change ?

Thank you very much and have a nice day !

:)

facile da usare un cavo usb (anche quelli per smartphone vanno bene) inseriscili tra pc e il pad automatico dovrebbe apparire una installazione.
funziona automaticamente nel caso in cui manchi i driver per loro come te e vedi cosa mancano.

Does all xbox one controller have an usb C port to be connected or some are wireless only ? (Sorry about all these questions but never had an xbox one controller between my hand)

It's a Micro USB connection, not USB C. Since it's Micro USB connection, pretty much any USB to Micro USB cable will work, so you don't necessarily need a Microsoft branded Cable.

Looking at the link (I used the English version), it does state that the adapter works in Windows 7. However, on the shopping sites I've checked, the adaptor only states Windows 10. If there were a older adaptor - and I'm not sure if there were - it would
be quite difficult to get now.

On this
link
, where MS were selling a Xbox One controller with the adaptor, it clearly states that it only works with Windows 10.

I know for a fact the controller will work with a wire on Windows 7 as I used to use one on my computer before I upgraded to Windows 10.

I don't want you to waste any money on a device that probably won't work my friend.

Thanks for your answer, would like it to wireless but I can handle it :)

Does all xbox one controller have an usb C port to be connected or some are wireless only ? (Sorry about all these questions but never had an xbox one controller between my hand)

And I found 2 link on microsoft website about wireless connexion here they are, but in french (i'm on phone can't find them in English) but here's the translation of interesting parts :

https://support.xbox.com/fr-BE/xbox-on-windows/accessories/xbox-wireless-adapter-for-windows-compatibility

"The wireless adaptator for windows 10 has been made to be used on windows 10 only. The old wireless adaptator xbox for windows works on device running windows 10, windows 8.1 and windows 7. "

That's where I heard about the "old adaptator"

And I just found this link :

https://support.xbox.com/fr-FR/xbox-on-windows/accessories/xbox-one-wireless-controller-differences-on-windows-operating-systems

This is line 1, 2 and 3 of the table :

"Fonctionality : usb wired connexion : works on windows 10 and windows 7/8.1

Fonctionality : connexion via wireless usb adaptator for windows : works on windows 10 and windows 7/8.1

Fonctionality : connexion via wireless usb adaptator for windows 10 : works on windows 10, doesn't work on windows 7."

So seems like there is 2 wireless adaptator and one of them seems to work on windows 7 but they don't precise if it's for xbow one or 360...sigh now you understand why i'm so lost, 3 versions of the controller, 2 different adaptator, many software update...I
know the best is to switch to W10 but I never had a single problem on w7 and would like to keep it as long as possible.

Thanks again !

Controller Xbox One - Windows 7 x64 - Wireless

Hey, I'm back for answers !

I bought a red xbox controller and a micro USB cable but despite your warnings, I also bought a wireless adaptator USB key because I was pretty sure it would work in one way or another. Would definitely not blame you if it didn't work ahah, but yeah, it
works !

So for those who want to keep windows 7 and play wireless with xbox one controller here is a way (there may be other ways, but this one works) :

1) You'll need a wireless adaptator for xbox one that works on windows 7, I found 3 adaptator :

[IMG][IMG][IMG]

This is the latest official one, ONLY FOR WINDOWS 10 DO NOT BUY FOR WINDOWS 7 This one is the first one released by microsoft and works on windows 7, since they want you to go to windows 10 they do not produce this key anymore so it's impossible to find it at honest prices. Here is the last one, it looks like the first version of the adaptator produced by microsoft but it's a no name, not an official adaptator. IT WORKS ON WINDOWS 7 ! I bought this one for 20€ (less expansive than microsoft one). Since it's a no name I can't give you a reference, just be sure it's written that it works on w7 when you order it.

2) When you got your w7 adaptator, plug in it on your computer, windows will try to find the drivers but shouldn't be able to. You have to install them by your hands and that pretty easy when you know what you are looking for, just go to http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com,
type "Xbox Wireless" and search for :

"Microsoft - Net - 1/1/2015 12:00:00 AM - 6.3.9600.16384"

It should be at the end of the second page. There are two different drivers of this name, look like one of them works for AMD processor and one for Intel but i'm not sure because I used the AMD one for my intel proc (the other driver didn't worked). So download
one of these two, try it (next step) and if windows says it find a driver but couldn't install it download the other one.

3) Now that you have downloaded your driver, go to :

Control Panel > Devices and printers > Right click on "XBOX ACC" > Properties > Material > Properties > Change parameters (i'm really not sure about this trad, the thing down the page) > Driver > Update driver

Now just select the drivers you have downloaded (you have to extact them in an file before) and windows should tell you that drivers have been succefully updated, if not try the second driver with the same name.

You now should be able to connect your controller wireless and play with it !

I've tried to be as clear as possible but don't forget that english is not my first language.

Thanks again to Obsessive Power for your help !

Controller Xbox One - Windows 7 x64 - Wireless

Hi

- There was 3 versions of the controller right ? Does they all work on w7 (x64) ?

They will all work, but only with a wired connection. Bluetooth is not supported for Windows 7 nor is the Wireless adapter for the Xbox One controller unfortunately.

- Can we play wireless on w7 or it just works with the wire ? Heard that you could play wireless with the
OLD microsoft wireless adaptator (the usb key for xbox controller) but not the new adaptator wich is specific to windows 10.

See previous answer. As for an older Adapter, I'm not aware of such a device. I'm pretty sure all adapters only support Windows 10.

- Would like to buy the RED xbox one controller, does it have a software difference with classic xbox one controller and for some reasons it only work on w10 or it's just a color change ?

All Xbox One controllers will work with Windows 10, but only via a wired connection.
