Controller won't work normally on a certain game

I suggest you try the following steps:



- Update your console and controllers to the latest firmware version. You can do this by going to Settings > System > Updates & downloads on your console, or by using the Xbox Accessories app on your PC or mobile device.

- Clear the cache of your console. This will delete any temporary files that might cause problems. To do this, turn off your console and unplug the power cord for 30 seconds. Then plug it back in and turn it on.

- Delete and reinstall GTA IV on your console. This will ensure that you have the most recent version of the game and that there are no corrupted files. To do this, go to My games & apps > See all > Games > GTA IV > Manage game and add-ons > Uninstall all. Then go to the Microsoft Store and download the game again.

- Reset your original controller to factory settings. This will erase any custom settings or profiles that might interfere with the game. To do this, press and hold the Xbox button on your controller until it flashes, then press and hold the sync button on the back of the controller until it flashes again. Then release both buttons and wait for the controller to reconnect.

- Try using a different USB cable or battery pack for your controllers. Sometimes, a faulty cable or battery can cause connection or performance issues.

So I have two controllers. The white one that came with the console has a really nasty drift so I don't use that one to play. The only thing I use it for is to charge the batteries. The Black controller I've been using I bought at target a couple years ago. I don't have this issue with any other game besides GTA IV. I just noticed last night that if I use the original controller to boot up the game, I can move the character and if I turn that controller off, and turn on the 2nd controller, everything works as normal. But I have to do this every time I want to play this game. Again, the original controller is no good when it comes to playing. I have other xbox 360 games installed and I don't have any issues with them.

I haven't tried resetting the controller or console to default i don't want to mess anything up my saved games.

I think your normal controller will only work for certain rounds with some needing you to have the big button to buzz in on certain game types to enable you to make your guess. You should be able to get the game and buttons for dirt cheap pre-owned!
