Controller won’t power on wirelessly and home button DOES NOT WORK HELP

My xbox one controller does not power on wirelessy. It only comes on via usb cable and when it is working the home button does not work i cant switch out of apps and games and its really annoying to do so from my xbox app on my phone. My controller was
working fine until a few days ago. I dont want to buy another one in case its an issue with the software than the hardware.

Controller Problem

Xbox one X power issues

I have 2 issues with the console (Xbox one X):

1) When I plug in the console to power pressing the controller button will power it up (as it should). After the first time, the controller button will never power it up again (unless I unplug and plug back into power the console). Every next time I can
only power the console up using the power button on the console (controller won’t power it up).

2) Ofter when I exit and quit a game (using the controller button and select quit on the drop down menu) the consolle will shutdown instantly right after I quit the game. This does not happen every time but quite often.

What should I do?

I’ve tried requesting a repair but its asking for the controller PID number which has unfortunately has been rubbed off.

I just got an Xbox One X yesterday and experiencing the same issue. In addition, my controller won’t power on when pressing the home button. I also tried the methods Leslie suggested and no luck.

I have this same exact problem. The xbox can communicate with the controller (the console will turn the controller on, and the controller will turn the console on wirelessly), but it will not do anything more than that unless plugged in with the micro USB
cable. The controller does bind when I use the connect button on the back and point it at the Kinect, but none of the buttons do anything wirelessly.

Do you have a friend you could borrow a controller from to see if it is a controller issue or a console issue? Does the home button on the controller light up?

Hey there. I assume you're talking about the official Xbox wireless headset. Have you tried the following?

The headset can’t connect to a specific controller

Try the following:

Unplug any wired headsets from the console.

On the wireless headset, press the connect button. Lights on the wireless headset and on the controller are lit when they are connected. If the headset connects to the wrong position on the controller, press the connect button again to switch to the next
available position.

If your headset still won’t connect, try this:

Disconnect all other accessories from the console.

Turn off all wireless controllers:

Press and hold the Guide button on the controller for three seconds.

Confirm that you want to turn off only the controller.

Press the power button on the wireless headset.

Press the connect button on the console.

Press the connect button on the wireless headset. The lights around the console power button will spin and blink once. The position that remains lit is the position of the wireless headset.

If you want to test if the wireless headset will connect to the other positions, press the connect button again. The wireless headset connects to the next position.

Does this happen when playing games or only when you're on the home screen? If it's just with the home screen, let's try a full power cycle on your console by holding the power button for 10 seconds (or until console turns off) and the power back on. That
should speed up your console and help with any delay when pressing buttons on the home screen.

If it's with all games, would it be possible to borrow a friend or family member's controller to see if you get the same issue? You might also want to try a different USB cable.
