Controller on fire?

When i was playing xbox controller disconnected even though my batteries were no where near dead, i took them out and put back in and my controller wouldn't turn on but i didn't think much of it and plugged my usb in. That worked fine until i felt my controller
overheating and then i could smell a strong burning smell and whenever i looked at my controller there was smoke coming out of it. So i unplugged it and left to rest for half an hour, whenever i went to play again the smoke started again almost instantly.
After that i opened the controller up but we couldn't find the source of the problem. This is my only controller and i dont have the money to get a replacement so any ideas on how to fix this?

You haven't answered if both are played trough Steam, but Im gonna assume yes, please try this

Are both controllers from Xbox or you are using third party controllers, do you play both games trough steam?

If that's the case have you activated the compatibility mode for the controller brand you are using?

Yes. I have had my original from my Xbox one and I just bought the volt color one today. That volt is the newest version.
