Controller mute icon

Hi I have a mute icon next to battery strength icon, i get no game chat or party chat through headset and when in party it is unable to detect headset present.

very frustrating please advise.

tried the adapter, Still not working. The mute symbols always on even though I'm not muted

This may sound like a stupid question, but are you signed into your profile (gamertag) when you see the mute icon?

I use a Passkey on my controller, but before I sign in I always see the mute icon on screen. It is only after I turn on controller to get Passkey screen, enter 6 character code that signs me in, that the mute icon changes to headset/mic icon.

As a test, are you able to plug a earbud/mic into the controller?

Does the mute icon change when you plug it in?

Spoke wifh an online agent 72 hours ago and i was told they would be in touch within 24 hours nobody had contacted me once.

xbox and microsoft have no fix, the issue has been ongoing for nearly two years and their was me thinking they would actually contact, what a fool i was.

I agree, I have the same issue and everything is brand new.

Was working fine and now no sound or mic when plugged into the controller, but as you've mentioned the muted mic is on the home screen and will not clear no matter what I do.

Box reset didn't clear it either.

The only correlation was Fortnite and stopped through the game.

Ok so I tried OS reset already earlier today but thought maybe i may have missed something first time around ive gone through manual set up albeit again id done it the first time but was a little unsure until i revisited, still to no avail.

Extremely frustrating the issue appears to have begun when my daughter played Fortnite yesterday, im thinking maybe its a setting retained from their server possibly ? Do Fortnite operate on a different server to xbox although she is playing on the xbox
one ?

I am completely perplexed as i say ive tried every tutorial and tip offered and still jack, im at a loss !

If that didn't help then the next step would be a reset of the console since
the problem might be on the actual OS of the console so we would suggest a
Soft Factory Reset
(while keeping games and apps and hardwire the controller and headset) IF AND ONLY IF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA IS MET:

There is a stable network connection.
The information for all profiles is known (email and passwords)

Once the setup is complete it will ask if we want to keep settings or manual setup lets do manual setup. Give it a shot and let us know of any changes!
