Controller keeps getting disconnected

I just received my new Xbox Series X for Christmas. Everything started great, but now I cannot play wirelessly with my controller because it randomly starts to disconnect.

At first I thought that it is a battery pack issue. I tried to put normal batteries in, then eventually new battery pack (tried that one with two new packs) - all had the same outcome, no solution.

Then I thought it may be a controller issue so I bought new one. Did not help.

Started to look online for solutions. Re-paired my controllers to my console several times, did power reset on both, updated both controllers, even tried to reset the console.

Controllers work perfectly plugged in, but I would still prefer to use one of them wirelessly.

Please try doing a hard reset on your console by following the steps below;

1. Turn off your console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.

2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 10 seconds.

Important Be sure to wait at least 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.

3. Plug the console power cable back in.

4. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on.

I’m sorry to hear that. Since it’s been happening with both of your controllers and they only work when plugged in, I believe this is already an issue with your console so you may need to consider sending in your device to have it repaired/replaced. If it’s still under warranty, you can create a Service Order for it by following the steps below;

1. Sign in to account.microsoft.com/devices.

2. Locate the device that needs service > click on Show details > select Start order.

Once you submit your Service Order, you'll receive a shipping label together with the instruction email on how you're going to send your device. You should receive it within 24-48 hours so please keep an eye on your email inbox, junk, or spam filters.

If manually reconnecting or re-syncing does not work, it can occasionally be due to interference. When I last had this happening to me, it was due to having to many other wireless devices around the console. Xbox One controllers operate on the 5GHz band so having things likes Routers, Phones, an Smart TVs, Laptops, etc that are operating on the 5GHz band can cause the controller to drop connection if many devices are in one area.

If this is the case, spacing out wireless devices can help, or try using Ethernet cables where possible and running less important hardware on 2.4GHz if you have the option.

Both of my controllers keep disconnecting. Each day it gets worse. It started when the controller update happened. Now the Xbox isn't even playable as it disconnects about every minute. What a waste of money.
