Controller issues recently

For the past 2 weeks I have been unable to play my Xbox due to controller issues. Periodically, the controller will disconnect itself and log me out of Xbox live after somewhere between 5-15 minutes of play time. This has happened on both multiplayer games
(NBA2k18, Marvel Heroes Omega) and single player (Turing Test). Initially, playing with the controller plugged in via USB cable worked but was a nuisance, but the past few days even hardwired connections have been causing problems.

I have power cycled the console multiple times, made sure the power brick is plugged directly into the wall, checked for controller updates on both controllers, and nothing has helped. I've had this Xbox console for 3 years without issue, and for both controllers
to simultaneously stop functioning would seem to be a software issue with a recent update. There are no new wireless devices near my console that could be interfering with the signal, not that it would matter in the hardwired cases anyway.

I have seen multiple posts with similar issues lately and no response from Xbox support. I'd love any advice on how to fix this, so I know whether to spend money on Black Friday game deals or switch to a PS4 before the holidays.

Anybody else going through controllers?

Nope.

My Day 1 controller served me well up until recently when I decided to get the Halo 5 Master Chief controller. No issues to report.

 

Controller Build Quality

I have not had any issues with my day one controller but recently I decided to upgrade to the Elite Controller and the build quality of this controller is great but I think it's a little overpriced.
