Controller disconnects when headset is plugged in

Plug your headset into your controller, plug your controller into your Xbox. Restart your Xbox while it's all plugged in. When it's loaded back up and you're on the home screen you can disconnect your controller and your headset ought to be working
as normal.

Please, reset your controller pairing.

To unpair it, press and hold the pair button on top of the controller for a few seconds until it vibrates twice.

Then, pair it again.

Turn on your controller by pressing and holding the Xbox button.

Press and release the Pair button on the Xbox.

Within 20 seconds, press and hold the controller’s Pair button a circular button on top of the controller as you hold it in your hands) until the controller's Xbox button flashes a few times.

That means it's searching for a console.

The Xbox button stays lit once it's connected.

So I wanted to add this too,

The controller is only disconnecting when I have my XB chat adapter from my Astro A50 headset plugged in.

When I have the chat adapter not plugged in it does NOT disconnect...

I have been through all the steps to rectify (rebooting, battery, updates etc) but it is still happening to all controllers. Works fine for 30 to 40 mins then starts disconnecting, even with the charging cable plugged in.

Any suggestions?

Is this happening when you have a headset plugged into it or still disconnecting even without the headset?

I was asking because I had the same problem but only with a headset plugged into the controller. I was using a Lucid 25 headset which runs strictly off the controller. I got a optical headset and now only my chat runs through the controller and the game
sound is wireless and haven't had any issues since. I'm guessing the headset was pulling to much amperage from the controller. Don't know if it is the same problem you were having. It did do it with all 3 controllers I had.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I only use a basic chat headset and disconnects happen both with and without it plugged in. However I may have found a solution. Yesterday I played for 2 hours without any disconnects after pulling out the "plug & play" cable.
I have been leaving it plugged in to the side USB slot and just using it when the controller battery needed charging.

Will see what happens later today when I play. Fingers crossed!

Try the following:

• Turn the volume down on your TV or stereo.
• Disconnect the headset, and then reconnect it firmly to the controller's expansion port.
  
  Note Never pull on the headset cable when removing it from your controller. Remove your headset from your controller by pulling on the body of the headset plug.
  
• Clean the plug on the headset cable with a clean cloth, and then reconnect the headset to the controller.
  
• Test the headset by connecting it to a different controller.
• If you're using an Xbox One Wireless Controller, replace the AA batteries or recharge the Xbox One rechargeable battery.
