    Controller Disconnects Related to Instant On Mode


    Not long after I got my Elite Series 2 it started disconnecting on regular basis, but it wouldn't actually shut off. Just wouldn't respond until I pressed the A button, the Guide button would flash then it would work again. I waited hoping for a firmware update to fix it, but that never happened. So I thought maybe it was a defective so exchanged it.

    The first week there were no issues. I used it until it died, and then charged it overnight. Next day it disconnected every 30 minutes, and I had to use it wired. I decided to hard reset my console that night (hold power button until shut off) so I could cold boot in the morning. The next day it didn't disconnect once, and I played all day. So I did it again that night. Same result. Now I believe the random 'disconnects' may be related to 'Instant On' mode. Perhaps a conflict arises somewhere with the frequency the longer the system goes without a full shutdown.

    At anyrate I think this is worth looking into and at least I can now temporarily fix it myself. I have reported the issue in detail via the Xbox, and am Posting here in hopes some Devs will see.

    Update: Same issue today, decided to stay offline today, disconnected from my wi-fi, turned off online mode, controller does not disconnect but 'freezes' every few minutes or so from 10-30 seconds with whatever the current button input was. Not sure if it's
    related to the wi-fi/controller disconnect issue.

    Just want to share this workaround or fix with regards to this matter. I have noticed that this might be related to the console power mode since the dimming will start if there's no activity (meaning the controller is not used and there's no navigation done).
    This is like on PC that will start to dim and hibernate if watching movies or listening to music.

    You just need to toggle the console power mode from Instant-On to Energy-saving and then changing it back to Instant-on. This has worked with my brother's console that get same problem.

    Same issue here. No controller to power off console functionality in Instant-On mode. Works fine in Power-saving mode. Sucks because I like to keep the instant-on enabled for background downloads and system updates. It does appear that the July (1407)
    update is the culprit. However, my controllers have been disconnecting and wonky since I've owned this thing. Very bad when I'm standing in the middle of a multiplayer game of Battlefield 4 and controller drops sync randomly. Gameplay dies and chat to friends
    die while the controller tries to get itself together. It also appears that battery level decreases affects the connection that the wireless controller has with the console.

    Do you use instant on mode or energy saving mode?

    Instant on mode is like standby mode on your pc. If the console glitches and you switch the console off the glitch remains because your console is in standby.

    So if you are using instant on then try a full shutdown by holding to power button until console fully shuts down and powerbrick light turns orange.

    Once powerbrick light is orange disconnect the power for a couple of minutes before switching back on.

    the Xbox One can be left in instant on mode without any issues however if you intend to disconnect the product when not in use I would personally set the console to power save mode.
